Graeson's Story

Meet Graeson!

Graeson's journey to rescue was not an easy one. This sweet terrier mix was found running loose and was successfully trapped by another rescue organization. Unfortunately, they did not have a foster home available for him, so they reached out to Fur Fun Rescue for help. Thankfully, we had room for him and welcomed him into our care.

When Graeson arrived, it was clear he had been surviving on his own for quite some time. We spent the first hour carefully removing ticks from his body. There were so many in his ears that it was difficult to remove them one at a time. His skin was covered with scabs and healing wounds, making it hard to tell where the ticks ended and the old injuries began. After removing as many ticks as possible, we gave him a much-needed bath so he could finally feel clean and comfortable.

Graeson was heartbreakingly thin, with nearly every bone visible beneath his coat. He was exhausted both physically and emotionally. Once he was cleaned up, fed, and given a safe place to rest, he slept for nearly an entire day. Slowly, he began to trust that he was finally safe. When he realized meals would come regularly, he wasted no time emptying his food bowl! He arrived weighing just 17 pounds and still needs to gain several more pounds to reach a healthy weight. We estimate Graeson is about 3 years old.

While we don't know anything about Graeson's life before rescue, we have learned that he is an incredibly sweet and loving boy. He quickly bonded with his foster mom and is happiest when he is close to her. Graeson would thrive in a home where someone is home most of the time, as he clearly enjoys the comfort and security of companionship. He loves to snuggle and happily sleeps in bed with his foster mom each night.

Graeson gets along well with other dogs, but he prefers to take his time getting to know them before jumping into friendship. We think that's a pretty smart approach! He also enjoys dog toys and chews and is learning that life can be fun.

Because of all he has been through, Graeson has a tender heart. He would do best in a calm home without a lot of sudden activity or loud noises. He pays close attention to new sounds and will alert when something seems unusual, but he is not a big barker. Usually, he'll only bark if he both hears and sees something that concerns him.

More than anything, Graeson wants to be your shadow, your confidant, and your best friend. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will love you with his whole heart, Graeson may be the perfect match.

Graeson is up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, heartworm tested, and microchipped.

If you're ready to give this deserving boy the safe, loving home he's been waiting for, come meet Graeson. He can't wait to find his forever family.

Indoor homes only.
Adopters within 2 hours of Cedar Rapids, IA only.
Adoption fee is $300.

Our dogs are all in foster homes. We require a completed application prior to meeting one of our dogs. The adoption application is on our website: furfunrescue.org. Once the application is received, we check the veterinarian reference if you have or have had pets. Then we contact you to set up a time to meet the dog. If, after meeting the dog you want to proceed with an adoption, we will run a background check, call personal references, and do a home visit. We always introduce our dog to any current pets. The final step is completing the adoption contract.
