Gracie-Noelle's Story
Gracie-Noelle is living in a foster home, and is currently staying at Rover's Place in Northbrook while her foster family is out of town. Gracie-Noelle is a favorite there! Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match and to learn how to meet her.

Scroll through her pictures to see ALL of her cute video content!

Gracie-Noelle is a total love bug with a beautiful smile! She has the BEST heart. We love her so so much!

Gracie-Noelle came to us from Kentucky in September of 2025. She had a loving home for many years but sadly, due to life changing circumstances, her owner could no longer care for her.

Gracie-Noelle was in our care until December of 2025, and most of that time was spent in a foster home. In December Gracie-Noelle was adopted by a nice couple but, sadly, they recently made the decision to return her to us.

As an older couple, and without a fenced yard, they did not feel equipped to manage her outside of the home due to Gracie-Noelle's leash reactivity. While Gracie-Noelle is quite dog social (as you can see!), and loves doggie daycare, she is, after all, a shepherd and can become frustrated on the leash at the sight of other dogs, fast-moving bikes, etc. This means she may pull and bark, and her handler does need to be able to manage a dog of her size.

Her adopters, as well as her long time foster family, could not emphasize more just how PERFECT she is in the home. Gracie-Noelle is housebroken, does great free roam for several hours, and is just an overall amazing dog. She is a big teddy bear who loves to snuggle with humans. She is a happy, loving, sweetheart with a big heart and an adorable floppy right ear!

Gracie-Noelle is dog and kid friendly, having lived with both. She is smart and beautiful, and a perfect age. Do not sleep on these middle-aged dogs, they are the best!

She does enjoy walks and being outside, but is also totally happy to just cuddle up with you. She has a great balanced temperament. In fact, our usually stoic vet, who met Gracie-Noelle during her intake exam after she was returned to our care in July, remarked on what a lovely dog she is and even wrote in her exam notes, "Great temperament!"

Gracie-Noelle has so much going for her, and so much left to give. We love how she is a proper and mature lady one minute and the next minute she is playing like a little puppy with her stuffie toys! Noelle loooooves a stuffie; she likes to carry them on walks, bring them to you when you walk in a room, and will randomly drop them at the feet of those she loves as offerings.

Noelle was in a long term foster home with a wonderful couple and their senior dog, and will return to that same foster home soon! She has also had playdates with her foster mom's brother's younger dogs, too. And as you can see from her videos, she has soooo many friends whenever she comes back to the shelter. She was our playgroup all star-- able to romp with the young 'uns, and chill with the ladies of leisure!

Currently, as mentioned above, Noelle is staying at Rover's Place in Northbrook. Her previous adopters would bring her there for daycare and boarding, and the staff grew very attached to her. When Gracie-Noelle was returned to us, they asked if they could have her stay with them any time her foster family needed coverage.

In fact, Rover's Place loves her SO much, that they are gifting whoever adopts her with a FREE MONTH of daycare (an $840 value!). If that is not a testament to how amazing Gracie-Noelle is, and how beloved she is, we are not sure what is!

We all adore Gracie-Noelle, and we know you will too! Please ask about her today. She deserves a happy ending, once and for all.

Gracie-Noelle's adoption fee has been generously sponsored! She is spayed, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
