Meet Gorgonzola (Gorgi)
Gorgonzola (aka Gorgi), male, 8-9 year old, Corgi
Gorgi is a senior Pembroke Welsh Corgi who was found as a stray in Star Valley. He was never claimed after being there for almost a month. He was transferred to the Animal Adoption Center in teh middle of April and have spent two weeks to get his health concerns addressed. Corgis are highly sought after and popular dogs however Gorgi is a medical case that will need a specific adopter. It has been confirmed that he suffers from Cushings Disease. This disease is characterized by an increased amount of cortisol in the blood. This causes dogs to pant, pace, drink excessively, urinate large volumes and become pot-bellied. High blood pressure also results from this illness -- this can cause damage to other organs (particularly eyes and GI tract) if not controlled. Gorgi will need consistent treatment for the rest of his life and it is on the more expensive side. In addition to his Cushings, Gorgi does have severe back pain that will need to be managed as well. Gorgi does well with other dogs and cats. His eyesight and hearing is not great but is definitely a people dog. He is not a great candidate for kids because he is older and in pain and does not want to be in a high energy environment. The AAC Adoption Counselors are happy to elaborate on his condition and what that looks like longterm and how the AAC will support Gorgi. We will be accepting applications however the AAC will be looking for a very specific home. Please note, Animal Adoption Center cannot guarantee the breed, composition or ages of our dogs as we usually have no history prior to them entering the rescue. We make every effort to ensure the dogs are healthy.
Please know that our intention is to insure long lasting committed homes for the animals at the AAC. If we feel that an animal and a potential owner are not a good fit we reserve the right to refuse adoption.
