Gisele

Meet Gisele, our favorite gentle giant. Through no fault of her own, Gisele found herself in a shelter after what is believed to have been a life spent as a breeder. Once she reached middle age, she was discarded at a pound, and her sweet nature quickly won over shelter staff, who worked hard to get her into rescue. At 5-6 years old, this beautiful brindle Mastiff is impossible not to love. She has only one eye- the other was surgically removed before she arrived but it doesn't slow her down one bit. This beautiful lady tested heartworm negative at the shelter; however, she did undergo treatment for Lyme, which may or may not be a chronic illness (it's too soon to retest). She has shown no signs of Lyme illness. She is currently also undergoing treatment for an ear infection. This infection was severe, likely because it was left untreated for a long time. She does well with her foster mom looking at or cleaning her ears but prefers to have them left along for now due to the pain.<br/><br/>Gisele is doing wonderfully with house training and thrives on a consistent routine. While she had a few pee accidents in her first few weeks in foster, she has done wonderfully adapting to routine and has not had any accidents in several weeks. She's deeply devoted to her people and appears to experience some separation anxiety, likely because she's finally learning what it feels like to be loved. For longer times alone, she is currently staying in an indescribable crate and it's likely her new home should invest in one of these. Her foster mom does allow her to stay out in the house uncrated for shorter trips (half an hour or less) and she has done relatively well. During the day, she's happiest curled up at her foster mom's feet, snoring contentedly while mom works.<br/><br/>Gisele lives peacefully with two dogs and even a cat, greeting every person and pet with a wagging tail. Her gentle, affectionate personality makes her a friend to everyone she meets. While she has done extremely well at smaller adoption events, she does get stressed out at larger ones so she would probably prefer not being a bar/restaurant dog but she does love a short stroll through her neighborhood or local park.<br/><br/><br/>Despite her size, Gisele is easy to walk on a leash and enjoys short strolls. She especially loves splashing in the lake near her foster home and takes every opportunity to wade into the water.<br/><br/><br/>Gisele has spent years giving to others; now it's her turn to be cherished. She is a loving, loyal companion looking for a soft place to rest, a family to call her own, and plenty of head scratches. If you're looking for a sweet, devoted best friend, Gisele may be the happy ending you've both been waiting for.
