Special Needs? Ginger is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Please note, Ginger was up for adoption but she developed a GI bug that kept her in hospital for several days. She has recovered now and we are working on getting the weight back on her that she lost. She dropped to 29 lbs but she is eating well now and so we're leaving her normal weight of 34 lbs as her weight on this description. She is a very petite girl.

Fence needed? Yes - this is not negotiable. Ginger must have a physically fenced yard. Please do NOT apply if you live in an apartment or town home or do not have a physically fenced in yard. Ginger loves outside and is very, very shy. She needs her yard.

What kind of home would be best for me? Ginger is seeking a seasoned, confident leader and a home with a canine companion. Please do NOT apply if you do not have a confident large dog in your home that Ginger can follow and we prefer it be a female standard poodle for Ginger has shown a very huge preference for female canine companions. Ginger arrived at the farm with a big confident sister whom she followed closely and borrowed confidence from daily. The sister has been adopted and Ginger has been learning who she is and finding new friends in her playgroup.

Ginger continues to seek out confident dogs but has warmed up nicely with our staff who take care of her every day. Ginger is shy. Even when she knows and trusts her human, you win her trust continually. She is sweet but she is never going to be the first dog in the room to ask for your affection. Ginger is clear that there is a hidden gem inside her once she trusts you but your going to earn that trust. Popcorn helps. She loves popcorn.

Because of Ginger's timid nature, we are asking no children under 16 in the home. As timid as she can be, the natural exuberance of children will startle and intimidate her. Intimidated dogs run away from home. A home with teens through mature adults would do well as long as there is a dog in the home.

What is my personality like? Timid and sweet, Ginger will not be the first dog in a group to come up on her own. She will come up to you last and in the safety of numbers. I doubt this will change. It is part of who she is.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Ginger may not approach new people or she will stand back and observe, then work her way up to giving a quick sniff of a hand. Ginger asks that you be patient and she will reward you! She loves treats and that is a great way to her heart.

Other tips and tidbits: Ginger is estimated at 2.5 years old. We celebrate her birthday 7/1/2021. Ginger has not yet been tested with cats.

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
