Huge Personality.
Some dogs steal hearts. Gertie steals hearts, common sense, and possibly the ability to walk past her without saying, "OH MY GOSH, LOOK AT THAT FACE."
At just 2 years old, this adorable little potato is so cute it should probably be regulated by law. With her soulful eyes, squishy face, and sweet nature, Gertie has never met a human she didn't want to love.
Her favorite thing in the world? Being with her people. If you stand up and head toward the door, Gertie suddenly transforms into an Olympic sprinter and will somehow arrive there before you do. We're not entirely sure how she achieves this level of speed, but we suspect teleportation may be involved. Because of her love for companionship, Gertie would thrive in a home where someone is around much of the day or can take her along on adventures.
Gertie is always ready for an adventure! Headed towards your car, no worries, she will happily ride along! She also walks nicely on a leash and short walks are often all she needs to burn off any excited energy!
Gertie gets along well with other dogs but has started having issues with the foster cat, so she would do best in a home with no cars. Gertie has not spent much time with children, but she has a very sweet and gentle nature and would likely give a child some competition for a "Who's the cutest in the room?" contest. We recommend that families with older children (14+) consider Gertie as she still has some training to do in order to be the perfect housemate and she doesn't want to compete with a younger human housemate.
One of Gertie's most impressive qualities is how quiet she is. She rarely barks and is as quiet as a mouse during the day. At night, however, she occasionally snores like a retired grandfather who fell asleep in his recliner halfway through a football game.
She is still polishing her house-training skills. When taken outside regularly, she does very well. While that quiet side of her is fantastic for anyone who works from home and needs a quiet companion during meetings, she alerts you with sly and stealth body cues. If she starts wandering off and looking thoughtful, she might be searching for the perfect place to leave a little surprise. Paying attention to her cues goes a long way and she would benefit from some solid training on good potty manners.
Gertie can be persuaded to sleep in a crate with the lure of bedtime treats, but she is not a fan of spending long days being crated. She much prefers being where the action is-which, in her opinion, is wherever you happen to be.
Like many Frenchies, Gertie has some allergy issues and takes medication daily to keep those pesky internal itches under control. She came into foster care with a severe ear infection and an ear growth, but thanks to treatment, medication, and a special ear procedure to help prevent future infections, she has made remarkable progress and is feeling so much better. She will need an owner who will be attentive to her allergies so she can always look and feel so beautiful.
If you're looking for an independent dog who enjoys personal space and alone time... Gertie would like to respectfully suggest you keep scrolling.
But if you want a sweet, hilarious, lovable sidekick who will make you laugh every day, follow you everywhere, and convince every person she meets that she is the most adorable creature on the planet, then Gertie may just be your perfect match.
Warning: Adoption of Gertrude may result in excessive smiling, chronic cuddling, and strangers constantly stopping you to ask, "Can I pet your dog?"
