Gertrude's Story
Meet me Saturday 12/6 at the Pleasanton Farmer's Market, in Delucchi Park, from 9 am - 1 pm! (4501 First Street, Pleasanton).

Gertrude is a very happy dog; she is curious and extroverted. She loves fetch and playing with a tennis ball. She likes playing with people and will play a goofy game of chase with you. Gertrude absolutely loves belly rubs.

In foster care, she has proved to be quite the cuddler; loves to cuddle on her caregiver's lap while he’s sitting on his couch. She’s learned to use the doggie door he has but not 100% housetrained yet. She doesn’t have crazy energy but is still playful and enjoys a 1-mile run!

Gertrude was transferred to Valley Humane on 10/24 from the Hayward Animal Services Bureau. She had been found stray. Gertrude weighs 27.4 pounds and is a young adult (estimated to be aged between 1 and 4 years old).

Gertrude has been diagnosed and/or treated for the below conditions. VHS won't be able to provide any additional medical care after the time of adoption so we ask that the new family agree to continue her care, which may include additional diagnostic testing, multiple veterinary visits, specialty surgery, and/or ongoing care for their new family member.

Luxating patellas - This means that her kneecaps may spontaneously pop out of place, resulting in lameness and pain. It is common for this breed to have abnormal joint conformation and are prone to early onset arthritis.

BOAS - also known as brachycephalic upper airway syndrome. This includes a combination of upper airway respiratory conditions. Specialty surgery with a board-certified veterinary surgeon is an option to help correct some of these conditions. The adopting family may pursue this option at their own expense.

Allergies – this dog appears to have underlying allergies, most notably a flea allergy. She recently received a 3-month long flea treatment. Your veterinarian can advise you of treatment options to help with the itchy skin when needed. Continued flea prevention is recommended. It is also recommended to routinely clean the skin within her tail folds with baby wipes.

Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption?
