George's Story

George was born Nov 10th 2025. He was passed around from multiple homes in his young life, until he landed at Mattie's Place and his future became stable and bright.

On April 11, George was off leash and ran into the road and was struck by a car. He suffered damage to his lungs and struggled to breathe as well as 2 severe jaw breaks.

His owners opted to euthanize George but the emergency clinic advocated for his life and the owners surrendered to Mattie's Place where we took over decision making and cost of care.

He was hospitalized in emergency care with a total cost to date of: $10,529.79
We anticipate a further minimum cost of: $2,000. More if he requires specialized dental surgery.

George was discharged from emerge, 1 week later with his lungs fully healed. In hopes of avoiding surgery for his jaw, he currently has to wear a muzzle to hold his jaw in place 24/7. With is 3 week recheck, the jaw is healing beautifully! He will have his final recheck in early June and he's expected to have a full recovery and can join his adopter at that time!

George received 2 rounds of vaccines|dewormer|parasite prevention in April and May.

He may need to have some broken teeth from the accident removed, which will be at the cost of Mattie's Place with a board certified dental surgeon as it would be a complex dental. We'll know better at his next recheck on the extraction status.

George will have his neuter completed at the cost of Mattie's Place on a non negotiable adoption contract with a neuter clause and date provided for July 2026.

On April 17th at George's vet appointment, he weighed in at 18.8 KG | 41.5 pounds

On May 7th at his next vet appointment he weighed in at 19.5 KG | 43 pounds

A 43-pounds, George, at 6-months-old is currently below the average weight for a Rottweiler his age (typically 60 pounds), but George is likely to continue growing until 18 months old, with his final adult weight potentially reaching 80 pounds.

While on the smaller side, George did join Mattie's Place at an unhealthy weight so he is playing catch up now. He also could have a growth spurt and "fill out" later, as Rottweilers often do not reaching full maturity until 2–3 years old. That said, I don't believe George will surpass 100 pounds and be deemed a "giant breed" adult dog.

I believe George has had some food insecurity in his life and this has led to food resource guarding with other dogs. He is currently fed in his crate and does exceptionally well in this scenario. There is no resource guarding with humans. He is not actionable with his guarding, but he does whale eye and stiffen when another dogs approaches. He should be fed in his crate for his lifetime, but his foster home is seeing improvement and less intensity, over the past month.

George would do best in a power breed experienced home.

He is great with dogs and cats and kids. Just a really, really nice boy.

A home with a backyard would be ideal for him as he loves his time outside, but also an active adopter that likes to outdoor adventure with their dog could be a good scenario also

FROM THE FOSTER:

George is an extremely lovable, playful, energetic puppy. He seems to love everyone he meets. Sometimes there’s a little jumping but with some reminders he calms right down for a good butt scratch.

George has adapted well to his muzzle but will be happy to be rid of it soon!

He is almost fully house trained, with minimal accidents in the house. If taken out at appropriate times he’s sure to do his business only outside. He’s great at alerting when he needs to go out as well.

When it comes to his eating he is learning to relax a bit. He eats extremely quickly and does guard at times. He does allow you to take his bowl and toys with no issue though.

George does fantastic with children, men, cats and other dogs - but he will try to eat the other pets food though!

George will make an amazing addition to a loving family who is ready for a learning puppy who loves to play!

----------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

----------------------------------------

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.
