Gemma's Story
Gemma was a doting mother to a litter of 11 puppies in California who have all found homes and now it's time for her to find her very own home! Gemma was picked up by our rescue partner in California as a stray just one day before she gave birth. She quickly acclimated to living, whelping and raising her puppies in a foster home with 10 other dogs both large and small. She was such a good mom and is so deserving of a wonderful home now.

- 76 pounds and approximately 3 years old

- Likely a Pit Bull mix

- Very social with people and loves everyone she meets! Gemma has not lived with children but think she has met a 3 year old child and was very appropriate, did not overwhelm the child or try to jump up and seemed happy to interact with the child.

- Good with other dogs both large and small. We would recommend dogs at least 15 pounds or bigger only because Gemma can be playful at times. We prefer to place female bully breeds into homes with male dogs for the best chances of long term success. Gemma is currently fostered with a female dog her size though and has done well. They play together a lot and cuddle together!

- No cats. She does have a prey drive for squirrels and alerts to cats so she will need a small home without small animals.

- Nice medium energy. She is happy to lounge, watch TV with you and hang out, but also enjoys playing with the resident dog in her foster home and could be a fun adventure buddy getting active outside.

- No leash reactivity noted. Gemma does wear a prong collar on walks because she can be a strong puller. She does much better with the prong collar.

- Crate trained and is happy to go in her crate for naps and to relax.

- LOVES toys! She really enjoys playing with toys, carrying them around and chewing on them. She is a heavy chewer which is pretty typical for quite a few bully breeds and she does best with heavy duty toys that last.

- Rides well in the car and loads up. No car sickness noted.

- No resource guarding or separation anxiety noted while in foster.

- Perfect potty habits in foster so far and will ring a bell handing at the door to let her foster family she needs to go out to go potty.

Gemma is a happy girl who is so appreciative of being rescued off the streets of Fresno, California where is is hot and harsh. She loves to snuggle on the couch with her people and soaks up the softness of her dog beds.

Gemma is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested negative and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Her adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our four partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Tualatin or Portland.

$150 adoption fee

Fostered in Oregon City, Oregon

COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION FOR GEMMA ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG
