His impressive list of talents includes:

• Crate trained
• Potty trained
• Walks great on a leash
• Doesn’t chew things up
• Dog friendly
• Gentle with cats

After everything Gelato has been through, this deserving boy is ready to leave his past behind and join a winning team. No complicated contract negotiations—just promise to love him forever!

Gelato is a 4 Year Old Rottweiler Mix. He weighs 53 lbs.

Sadly, Gelato tested positive for heartworms. But please dont let this scare you away! We just need to get him into a home during his treatment. The cost for the heartworm treatment is completely covered. We can provide you with more info about his heartworm treatment if you are interested in adopting or fostering him (wed love to find him a foster home!). Once his treatment plan is completed, he will be able to live a normal healthy life with no restrictions!

GELATO is one of 80+ dogs and puppies we recently rescued from a heartbreaking hoarding situation. They were living in a filthy, overcrowded house, struggling to find enough food. They were never allowed to go outdoors. Many arrived with scars, wounds, and years of neglect behind them.

And yet, despite everything they've been through, these dogs have shown us just how resilient they are. Every one of them is sweet-natured and eager to experience something they've been missing for far too long: feeling loved and safe.

Our staff and volunteers have been busy giving them warm baths, gentle cuddles, lots of affection—and most importantly, a safe place to finally feel cared for. Some are still very timid, but even the shyest dogs find comfort in being held and loved.

Thankfully, many have found foster homes with us or with our rescue partners. But about 30 dogs are still waiting at our shelter for a foster or forever home.

They've already survived the worst. Now, they deserve the chance to know what it feels like to be safe, loved and part of a family.

Could you be the person who gives one of these deserving dogs their fresh start?

Please share their story to help us find them loving homes.

-------

ADOPTING A DOG
Our dogs have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and tested for heartworms (if 7 months or older).

If you have a dog or children we ask that you bring them with you to meet our dogs to make sure it is a good match.

We are open for meet and greet adoptions at our shelter on weekends. No appointment is necessary for weekend adoptions. Our weekend hours vary and we also have satellite adoption events every weekend. Please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/FriendsofKCKAS/ for more info about weekend adoption hours, events and available pets.

We are open Monday through Friday by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at 913-321-1445 or by email at petadoptions@kckpd.org to schedule your appointment during weekdays.

FOSTERING
Can't commit to adoption but still want to help us save lives? Consider fostering by filling out our foster application at https://www.kckpd.org/Animal-Services/Foster-a-Pet. All supplies are provided.
