GARRIUS - JJ (LAFAYETTE OREGON)'s Story

If Interested in this dog please go in and fill out a foster or adopt application, no one is obligated by doing this but it is a great start. Long distance adoptions or fostering can be discussed. Www.JCLDR.com for our online app.

Due to drastic family changes we would love to have a foster first to settle him in and give this dog confidence and help for he will grieve for his family. He is very loyal and they are his job that he takes personal and seriously. JCLDR wants a foster or foster with intent to adopt. This is one fine pup that can do nothing but advance well under the right direction, love and care. They have had him from 8 weeks old and adore him. He is a good normal Catahoula.

STATS, OVERVIEW:
Garrius is a purebred neutered catahoula male, fully vaccinated. His actual, birthdate 8/30/24. He is microchipped as well. And he has been loved. He has been with his family since he was 8 weeks old. He weighs 56 pounds, high energy full of himself teenage puppy. He loves kids but he is over exuberant and so would be too much for them. Older children 7 and up dog respectful children. He is caution in meeting new dogs but as long as they play nice and introductions are done properly he is all in and their best friend. He is timid with first introductions with all human and animal first meetings. Like most Catahoulas, he is a one owner tightly packed one family dog. He loves all in his pack once he is settled in but he chooses a leader. He banks off of a confident not dominant leader. Once he packs up he is very loving and loyal. He has had some obedience training, sit, heel, stay close to me, he does not run off if stay close to me command is given. He feels safe with that. He can be let loose and with this command he knows not to go beyond that silent boundary. This was accomplished with puppy treat training and he is very food motivated, so that makes him easy to train, and he is smart, willing and wants to please. At four months old he was able to go into stores with owner. He is a very vocal outgoing expressive dog and neighbors pushed back and owner resorted to the no bark collar as a means to keep peace. It is not used at present. Barking is his release and his way of expressing life. It is amusing and part of his personality. He is crate broke to open wire crate, but will go in the air line approved crate as well. He likes a canvas cover over the open wire crate. He does settle down at night with the cover on or off.. now that he is older, they only put him in the crate at night mainly. The reason for rehoming this good dog is because the mom of the household has an austistic child who has to be home schooled and the dog and the child love each but feed off of the situation. So the child and the dog do crossfire in working each other up. Also they have had a home fire, had to move out for a spell and lived in a family members home where the child and dog both, were very strained and unsettled with the situation. Also in that home were breeding Jack Russel Terriers and they are vocal and they stirred this pup up a lot. He got along with one that was mellow and he got along with a neutered male shepherd in the family, but the other little dogs made him scared and insecure so he just went his way and caused no problem except with one that attacked him and he did stand his ground and protect himself and his owner. But he was not the instigator. Owner had hold of him and the attacking dog ran at him and he was hurt seriously and that was what caused him to react. He has come back fine with the easy dogs, so he would do good fine with other dogs that are fun and playful and intro’s are made properly. He needs a dog that is not confrontational but will be confident enough to show him the ropes. He does show interest in squirrels in the yard, more game interest than hunting. If a dog experienced cat was in the new home, and did not run from him he would possibly get along. If it runs game is on. He does have some hunting prey drive instinct but he would not know what to do if he caught the prey.. it is puppy game mostly. He does dig in the yard if left alone unsupervised. It is one of his games and he is not interested in toys much. He is not a ball dog. This is not unusual for Catahoulas. He prefers to be in and near his family than to be left outside alone. That is normal pack behavior for our breed. He likes to go run and play to expend energy and go back with his family. He tries to cuddle with those with anxiety.. he senses that with his family who are very much into specials needs in the household. He loves to cuddle and is a cuddle bug by nature. He is sensitive to the needs of his family and he needs to be cuddled and close. He picks up on everything around him and he is sooo sweet. The vet techs love his temperament and they know the Catahoula Breed. They adored him during his neuter recently. This dog will flourish in the right home. He is ok in the car but he would just as soon prefer to be in your lap than buckled into the seat belt of riding in his crate. He is a needy loving dog. It is the atmosphere in the home that needs to be changed and that is why the family is sadly rehoming him. For his own good and growth. They love him so much. He is good on leash. If he is working with and for you he is good. If he is on leash without command and free to snoop he is a typical Catahoula that can be a leash puller but he responds to correction. He is very much hating the toenail trims. It is a wrestle, where he just plays and says.. game is on. He has both white and black toenails. He is being worked with on that and will get better. He does like nylabones, he does like that or an antler. He does great at the vets. He is protective of his family and if reassured then he settles down and accepts visitors.

HISTORY: Rehoming due to Special needs child and a mother over stressed and overworked and he needs more exercise and attention. He was theirs from 8 weeks.

GOOD: This is a good dog. The owner loves his love of life and love for her when she loves on him.. he is so enthusiastic and he is just into her and it is good for both. Her absolute favorite thing.. he 100 % matches love for love and your energy in positive things.

BAD: He is a jump up playful dog and it needs to be worked on. It is puppy zest and energy and exuberance. Owner says he is part Kangaroo and she doesn’t have time to give it he work needed.

UGLY: He is a genuine sweet puppy teenager and there is nothing ugly about him. He has never attacked or bitten anyone He alerts like he should maybe overboard at times, because he senses the needs in the family. There is a lot of tension and they are vulnerable. Mom has PTSD as well so he is feeling all the emotions in the home, health issues etc. He has handled it pretty well and he has helped the Mom a lot. He would be a wonderful support dog for someone that had the time to train him, he has all the correct instincts for this. So no ugly in him at all. All Catahoula trying to be what he be. He can really flourish in the right environment and Mom wants this for him.
