Frito's Story

Frito loves to get his cozy on; whether a pillow, a blanket, warm laundry or your arms, Frito is ready to snuggle. He could double a clutch purse given his penchant for being carried around. Frito is a great little man; open, curious and not afraid of anyone nor any dog. He's great on leash and will happily take the lead on a pack walk. In foster care, he's doing well with housetraining with a consistent routine and boundaries.

Frito was transferred to Valley Humane on 3/23 from the Tri-City Animal Shelter. He is a young adult (estimated to be aged between 1 and 4 years old) and weighs 5.7 pounds.

This dog has a condition called "luxating patellas." This means that his knee caps on his hind legs may spontaneously pop out of place, resulting in lameness and pain. At this time, his luxating patellas are a Grade 1 out of 4 (where 1 is the least severe and 4 is the most severe) in the left knee and Grade 2 out of 4 in the right knee. This means that the knee cap is loose and may move in and out of place spontaneously as he walks. At this time, the luxating patellas does not affect his gait and do not appear to cause lameness. Luxating patellas can be corrected by surgery and adopters may choose this route at their expense. If surgery is not pursued, the dog may develop arthritis in the knee joint. Arthritis can be treated with anti-inflammatory medication made for dogs. You may wish to discuss treatment options with your regular veterinarian.

Do you have questions about this animal or are you ready to take the next step to adoption? Pleasanton Valley Humane Society's Adoption Policy
How It Works Potential adopters can read an animal’s profile to determine if the pet would be a good fit for their home and lifestyle. Copy and paste the application URL from the animal’s profile or click to apply. Once the application is received, an adoption counselor will call to discuss the match. Be ready to answer the call from Valley Humane as soon as your application is submitted. Animals shown on our website are ready to go home. We typically schedule an adoption appointment within 24-48 hours of approving an application where you can meet the pet and complete paperwork. Once you’ve decided a pet is the right fit for your family, the adoption counselor will walk you through our adoption agreement. All pertinent medical information will be provided to you, as well as a take-home packet including information on feeding your new pet. We will also verify that the animals’ microchip is accurate and prepare them for travel. Finally, we will collect the adoption fee. Please allow approximately one hour to complete the adoption process. After taking a quick picture to share on social media (optional, of course!), you’re ready to head home and start enjoying life with your new friend
