Frida's Story
OTTAWA, ON - Frida is a beautiful, two-year-old, Standard Poodle who is intelligent, affectionate and incredibly sensitive to the world around her. She is also a dog who needs her people to understand her communication and help her feel safe and secure.

Frida came to SPIN because life in her previous home had become increasingly difficult for her. She is very sensitive to sudden movement and noise and, when overwhelmed, can become hypervigilant and reactive. She has also developed resource guarding behaviours. Her family worked with a behaviourist and made every effort to help her, but ultimately felt that they could no longer provide the environment Frida needed.

Since coming into foster care, Frida has been able to relax and show us more of the sweet, curious and affectionate dog underneath her anxiety. She enjoys walks, car rides and spending time with other dogs in appropriate settings. She is highly food motivated, very intelligent and has an excellent nose—making activities such as scent work a particularly promising outlet for her.

Frida is not a dog who will be comfortable in just any home. She needs people who are patient, observant and willing to let her build trust at her own pace. She will need continued positive behaviour support and a family who understands that helping her feel safe is more important than expecting her to immediately fit into their lifestyle.

For the right family, however, watching Frida gain confidence and learn that she can trust her people could be incredibly rewarding. Let’s see what her foster family has to say about her.
