Franklin's Story
Meet Franklin (also known as Frankie or Frank), a 3-year-old Mastiff x German Shepherd mix weighing about 74 pounds. He’s a loving, goofy, and resilient dog who has come a long way from his difficult beginnings and is now ready to find his forever home.

For the first three years of his life, Franklin was locked away in a room with no toys, no enrichment, and no vet care. He never experienced play or companionship until he came into rescue. Since joining his foster home, he’s been discovering the world for the first time — learning how to play, trust, and enjoy being part of a family. His first toy brought him pure joy, and he hasn’t stopped smiling since.

Franklin is playful, curious, and affectionate. He enjoys being around people and loves his toys, though he’s fairly independent and prefers to rest nearby rather than on top of you. He knows several commands including heel, place, sit, stay, come, and “ok” as his release word. He walks well on leash, especially with structure.

He has a high energy level and thrives on activity and engagement. Franklin enjoys fetch, chew toys, and licking treats out of his Kong. He’s crate-trained, house-trained, and sleeps soundly in his crate at night. Crating also helps him manage mild separation anxiety when left alone.

Franklin would do best in an adult-only home that can continue providing structure and training. He can be mouthy when excited and is still learning to control his enthusiasm. He may do well with another well-mannered, medium-to-large dog who matches his energy level, but he would also thrive as the only dog. Because of his high prey drive, a cat-free home is recommended.

Franklin has some environmental allergies and is recovering from an ear infection, so he’ll need an adopter who can continue managing his skin and allergy care with proper food and vet support. He can be sensitive about his ears and paws, but with patience and gentle handling, he settles in well.

After a life of neglect, Franklin is finally learning what it means to be loved. He’s smart, eager to please, and full of personality — ready to share his second chance with a family who will give him the care, structure, and love he deserves.

Apply to adopt Franklin today:
https://www.thedogrescuesociety.net/adopt

More info: https://www.thedogrescuesociety.net/available-dogs/franklin

Questions: info@thedogrescuesociety.net
