Foxie's Story

Foxie is a beautiful brindle girl with the striking markings of a Dutch Shepherd and a heart that has been through more than most. When she first arrived, her body showed clear signs that she had very recently had puppies. We will never know what became of them, whether they were taken or lost, only that Foxie came to us having already survived something heartbreaking.
She has spent more than 400 days waiting for a family of her own, and we honestly cannot understand why she is still here. Foxie is everything people say they are looking for. She is smart, eager to learn, and deeply connected to her people. She is playful, exuberant, and full of life, with the athleticism to keep up on any adventure and the sweetness to be just as content by your side at the end of the day.
One of our favorite things about Foxie is the way she checks in with her person on walks and runs. She does not just want to explore the world. She wants to experience it with you. She makes a wonderful running and hiking partner, and she would thrive with someone active who enjoys training, enrichment, and good company.
Her veterinarian believes her slightly different gait is the result of an old injury, but she is pain-free and does not let it slow her down for a moment. You would never know it watching her sprint happily across the play yard. She has also done great with the other dogs she has met and comes across as social, adaptable, and endlessly engaged with the people she loves.
Foxie is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She is back to a healthy weight and more than ready for the soft place to land that she has earned many times over.
After everything she has given, we think it is time someone finally sees what we have seen all along. Foxie is not just our longest resident. She is a perfect adventure buddy, a loyal companion, and a best friend waiting to happen.
Could that someone be you?
To meet Foxie or learn more about her, email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com.

Petersburg Animal Care & Control's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest in adopting from Petersburg Animal Care & Control! We’re so glad you’re considering giving a shelter pet a loving home. We do not charge an adoption fee; however, all animals must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, and the cost of the procedure is covered by the adopter. We’re happy to support adopters by coordinating appointments with our low-cost veterinary partners for spay/neuter services and other basic care needs. Adoption Process • We prefer to schedule appointments for meet-and-greets to ensure that staff or volunteers are available to spend adequate time helping you get to know the animal. • When you arrive, please sign in and wait to be escorted by a staff member or volunteer before entering the kennel areas. • For safety reasons, please do not reach into kennels or attempt to touch animals through barriers. If you’re interested in a particular pet, our team will bring them to a meet-and-greet area for proper introductions. • After your visit, you’re welcome to submit an adoption application. Applications must be approved before we can schedule a meet-and-greet with your family pets. • Meet-and-greets with personal pets are by appointment only, and for safety, two staff members must be present to handle all animals involved. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to make each match the best fit possible — both for our animals and their future families.
