Forrest's Story

A little about Forrest

Forrest, aka the Gumbo, is a 2 year old America Bulldog (Mix, DNA test pending!)). He was adopted by his original person from the Humane Society, sadly, Forrest’s original owners abandoned him when they moved interstate. He is 2 years old, neutered and in excellent health with no known medical issues.

Forrest is a delightful blend of powerfully handsome and pretty darn cute depending upon which way the wind is blowing. Most importantly, Forrest aced a detailed behavior and disposition evaluation by a professional trainer with extensive experience with his breed type. Her assessment suggested that as a baseline he is a very good boy who is biddable, learns easily and joyfully, and regulates himself well in play with both other dogs and humans. His skills suggest a solid temperament and that he has had a basic level of training and socialization and that further work on skills such as recall as well as time with other balanced dogs in activities such as pack walks or games such as GRC will level him up into a very, very good and easy boy.

Her belief is that Forrest leans more towards the working type of the breed rather than the house hippo, but it is clear from his time in this temporary home that he bonds easily with people and when fulfilled is loving, calm and easy to be around. He would likely excel in an active home or with someone who wants to put him to work in sports such as GRC or other working disciplines. So, he is 80% worker bee, 20% house hippo if we were to put numbers on it.

Forrest is easy to handle, has no problem with a stranger handling him or examining his face, teeth, ears, paws etc. He is very accepting of people and bonds quickly. He interacted well with four dogs of various ages, sizes and types at the assessment and remained respectful and appropriate throughout every interaction, matching energy nicely.

Prior to this living situation he lived with children in the age range 3 to 13 years. He would do equally well in a home as the only dog, or with another balanced canine companion, especially a confident and playful female. He has not yet been tested with cats.

He is doing well with learning to settle in a crate, walks well on a leash and learns very quickly what is expected of him and is happy to oblige. He is currently in a temporary foster home and they are working on building his skills with a trainer, which will make him a very loving and easy companion.
.
Sugar Face Foundation is happy to assist in the re-homing of Forrest. He is with a separate foster at this time, not with Sugar Face Foundation. Volunteers of Sugar Face Foundation have meet Forrest and agree he is as advertised above and really just needs a dedicated family and he will become an unforgettable part of that family.
