Fish's Story

Fish joined Mattie's Place after she was surrendered by her owners along with her sister Chips and 3 other littermates that went to different rescues.

The situation they were removed from was a horrible home of neglect and these puppies were nearly starved to death. The adults in the home; 4 of them, were removed from authorities.

Fish has a DOB of: 07-24-25. As of February 13th, 2026, at the time of this profile going live, she is almost 7 months old.

When she arrived to Mattie's Place, January 24, 2026 she weighed 4.90 KG / 11 pounds. She is a Cane Corso / XL Bully mixed breed. She should have weighed in the 50 pound range.

We have seen these situations before, most recently with 2 dogs, Blacken & Decker, who came in at the same size/weight/breed/age as Fish and over the course of a few months in foster care they blossomed to a healthy 55 pounds.

I would expect, though I can't be certain, for Fish to do the same and likely land in the 50 pound, smaller in stature range as an adult dog.

She came into care with scabs all over her body, so we tested her for ringworm and she was negative. Presumably it was from the puppies fighting over food, when food was provided to them.

Fish is a healthy, thriving girl and we expect no fall out health concerns from her rough start at life.

Fish is in a foster home with older kids and does well. She bonds hard and fast to her people and will be an incredibly loyal dog.

She missed out on a lot of early training options as a puppy, so she will need an adopter ready to jump into professional training with her and I can recommend some affordable one on one or group training options.

Fish will need an experienced adopter and a resident canine mentor would do her a world of good to help integrate her into society and grow her confidence with the outside world.

She is not cat tested, but presumably fine with dog savvy cats. She would do well with another canine in the home. Kids 13+ though younger visiting kids would be fine with supervision. Though she lives in a foster home with kids and her original owner had many young kids, I think she would do better in an adult only home or adult/teen home that is a quieter space. Someone home more often than not would also be best for Fish, as she does have some minor separation anxiety she is working through, given the trauma's she came from and the newness of this life she's been given.

If you are a dedicated, patient, compassionate, breed experienced adopter, Fish may be the perfect girl for you!

FROM THE FOSTER:

Every day her personality blooms a little more!

She loves to play with us and is learning that toys are fun too. She has found her voice, barks when someone walks into the house and at her own reflection.

She is very food motivated, learns new things quickly. Has mastered sit and we are working on leave it and wait. She is extremely curious and is becoming more confident.

Weary of new people but with slow introductions she will accept treats from them. Her safe place (her crate) is where she goes when she is feeling nervous.

She is not a fan of the outdoors yet because it has been so extremely cold and does not like to be cold and prefers the warmth the inside brings her.

Potty training is a work in progress with the support of puppy pads.

Fish has short bursts of puppy energy and then loves nothing more than cuddling up in her bed or better yet in someone’s lap. She is a total love bug once you have won her over.

Fish is a dream puppy at night. Once crated she just needs to know someone is close by and she sleeps the whole night through!

------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
