Fiona 's Story

Personality:
Fiona is a very playful and generally happy gal. She is true to her breed and loves to run at high speed with her nose down for long distances.

Independent - She will entertain herself but prefers that you are watching to cheer her on.
---

Favorite Activities:
Chase & be chased (zoomies) around a large yard space. She enjoys this game with human and dog friends (when supervised and appropriate).

Nature hikes! She could go all day long out in the wilderness. She always comes home in a much better mood after getting a good hike in nature.
Hikes are recommended on a long line and harness to keep her from letting her nose take her too far away from you. Remember she is a hound.

Chew time! Fiona loves a good chew. She will work on tasty bones or a Kong (or other food stuffable toy).
All food items including chews must be regulated wisely and only given to her when she is in her “bedroom” where she can and will enjoy them in peace.
---

Leash Walking:
- Generally does okay after training.
- Using long lines to allow more freedom and movement.
- Treats (though they need to be used wisely and sometimes she won’t take them at all when on a walk.)
- The walk itself is a reward for Fiona so ensuring you regulate the walk by applying the stop forward motion when she begins to pull.
- Practice recall and u-turns frequently with her before expecting good walking skills.
- We also always forgive some initial pulling when we begin a walk to let her get the first burst of energy out. After that, she usually will settle into the walk. This looks like her walking at a brisk pace (keep up!) in front of you with her nose down. Tension may occur on the leash but she will slow her speed just slightly and not continue to pull. If she continues to pull it is time to stop moving and wait for her to reconnect with you.
---

Dog-Dog Introductions:
Great until she is not.

Fiona does amazing at communicating with other dogs but she will instigate a fight abruptly that can be hard to see coming. You can spot early signs of her becoming irritated or concerned with a dog IF you are paying attention. If you are not… You will find a fight might break out suddenly and you will have to go in and get her.

She will continue to fight until the other dog gets the upper hand. Fiona is not much of a fighter but each time she gets into one she is learning how to become quicker at getting the upper hand.

On-leash she will become reactive if she feels tension on the leash. However, if you can keep her and yourself from becoming tense and the leash loose she is generally fine moving by a dog when out on a walk.

Resource Guards food, water, affection from her humans, and her bed/crate. This is especially apparent around other dogs.

***Fiona will not be placed in a home with other dogs so there is no need for her to share resources.
---

Fears:
Loud noises (gunshots)

Losing her resources.

Being surprised and not being able to investigate something because it appears and disappears before she can get a good sniff.

Strange beast-like shaped objects set at a distance. Once it was an exercise ball, flags, firehidrent, a large rock, stump, etc.
---

Video Playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLxX3PZ-H5c8214Aospe8bY6ID6n_YAct9

Detailed profile is available upon request.
