Finn's Story

Breed: English Setter
Sex: Male, neutered
Age: 7 years
Weight: 48 lb
Location: KY
Good with other dogs: Yes
Good with cats: Possibly dog-savvy cats and slow intro
Good with kids: Yes, dog-savvy kids
Crate trained: Yes, but prefers not to use it
Housebroken: Yes
Health: Good, but a little arthritis, see below
Microchip: Yes

Meet Finn: Finn is an amazing 7-year-old English Setter with a puppy heart, who embodies the best of the breed. He is smart, charming, deeply affectionate, and currently thriving in his ABESR foster home. Do not let his age fool you; Finn has the playful spirit and wonderful energy of a 3-to-4-year-old dog. If you are searching for the perfect blend of a relaxed house companion and a fun-loving outdoor partner, Finn is your boy.

Finn is a "velcro" boy whose absolute favorite activity is simply being with his people. Whether he is keeping you company around the house or cuddling on the couch, he just wants to be part of the pack. He is delighted to be invited up onto the foster parents’ bed to snuggle for the night. Finn lives happily with other dogs, is great with dog-savvy kids, and is trustworthy when left alone in the house. He has never tried to counter-surf and shows no food or antler guarding. While he is crate trained, he much prefers having free reign of the house, which he handles beautifully. Finn is highly intelligent and already knows Sit, Lay Down, Stay, Whoa, Give me paw, and he has a reliable Come command.

The great outdoors is a joyful adventure for Finn. He walks at a steady pace on a front-clip harness without pulling, pausing to point at birds, squirrels, and leaves. He brings that same focus to the backyard, where he loves checking the trees for critters. Toys hold absolutely zero interest for him—after all, why play with a ball when there is wildlife to watch? Finn is very respectful of boundaries and has never challenged his foster home’s four-foot fence. Offer him a car ride, and he will be ready in a flash! Finn is a very quiet boy, but when he wants to communicate, he will treat you to his signature setter "woo-woo" talk that will leave you laughing.

Finn is healthy. He recently had a benign mass removed from his elbow with clean margins and there were no further concerns. Like many distinguished 7-year-old setters, he has a touch of arthritis, but it does not slow him down in the least.

Finn is a joyful, and deeply loving gentleman who is ready to bring a lifetime of loyalty to his permanent home. If you think this handsome boy is a match for you, please put in an application today!

We are a national breed rescue group and our process is designed to make sure we are very careful in the placement of all of our rescue dogs. Here's the link to our online adoption application in case you haven't already started. https://www.abetteresetter.org/adopt There is no cost or obligation for completing the application. Within a few days you'll receive a phone call from one of our volunteers to discuss your application. We do check vet references and conduct home visits. If you haven't been through a breed rescue adoption process, it may seem lengthy at first but it is just intended to make sure each individual/family adopts the right dog for your family and home. In our rescue they are fostered in a home and our intention is that they are never abandoned or let down again.
