Finch's Story

Finch is one very special boy. This cheerful 5-month-old, 21# Border Collie is equal parts thoughtful companion, eager student, and playful puppy. He is as loyal as they come and wants to form a special connection and make his people smile every day.

Finch likes to think things through before diving in. New experiences don’t scare him; he prefers to sit back, observe, and process the world at his own pace. Once comfortable, his happy personality shines brightly. At home, he greets visitors enthusiastically and loves being close to his humans.

Like any good Border Collie, Finch loves learning. It’s a pleasure to watch him figure things out on his own. Tug is a favorite game, and he retrieves like a pro. He can turn just about anything into a toy and always ready for a little fun. After exercise or playtime, he settles beautifully… now it’s time to cuddle! His energy level is nicely balanced – he is active and engaged without being overwhelming.

Finch is mastering house training and gives clear signals when he needs to go outside. He needs potty breaks every few hours. He sleeps through the night in his crate and happily runs to it when asked: it’s his cozy, safe space. He’s also doing “Fintastic” on leash! He wants to take his people to obedience classes and hopes they bring good treats!

His ideal family will be patient, active, and understanding of his thoughtful nature. Strong preference for families with Border Collie experience and a friendly, confident canine sibling in the home to guide him and boost his confidence. Older, respectful kids would suit him best, while chaotic or pushy environments would not.

Finch is an incredibly lifelong companion in the making. Are you the lucky one to add him to your family?

APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt

Finch is being fostered in Baxter, MN.

Finch's adoption fee is $550 + MN sales tax (this includes his neuter). He is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. He will be neutered and microchipped at the age of roughly 6 months. The cost of this procedure is included in his adoption fee. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Heart of a Border Collie Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please read 'Do You Have What It Takes' on our website (www.hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt) before applying to adopt a dog through our rescue. You may also find information about Border Collies helpful (www.hoabcr.org/border-collie-info). Steps in our adoption process include: 1) Filling out an application. Taking this step indicates you are truly interested in adopting a dog - it is not binding. 2) If your application meets the requirements for the dog you're interested in, it will be screened through an initial interview with one of our volunteers. If your application does not meet the requirements, you will not be contacted. 3) If we determine your home could be a good fit for one of our dogs, we will complete reference and vet checks, and set up a home visit, which may occur in person or virtually. 4) If approved, details about your application are sent to the foster that has the dog that you're interested in. If the foster feels you are a match for their foster dog, they will call you to talk in detail about the dog, and possibly move to an in-person meeting. Meetings are allowed AFTER applications are fully approved as described above. 5) If that dog is not deemed to be a good match, we may suggest another dog for you, or your application will be kept on file for a potential future dog. 6) Adoption is complete with payment and a signed adoption contract. Our adoption fees are specified in individual Petfinder listings. The fee includes spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm and Lyme tests, rabies & distemper & Bordetella vaccinations (if old enough). Our dogs go to their new homes with a collar, harness, leash, rescue ID tag, starter food, toys and blanket. We are required to charge appropriate MN sales tax.
