Fergus's Story

Meet Fergus!

Tall, dark, scruffy, and ridiculously handsome — meet Fergus!

Fergus is a 1-year-old, lanky fella who came to us after being found as a stray in Detroit and sadly was never reclaimed. At just 42 pounds, Fergus is currently underweight for his tall frame, so he's working on packing on some healthy pounds while he waits for his forever family.

Our best guess is that Fergus may be a Giant Schnauzer/Standard Poodle mix, but with rescue dogs, breed identification is always just that — a guess! While both breeds are often associated with lower-shedding coats, we cannot say whether Fergus is hypoallergenic. His scruffy coat may also require regular professional grooming to keep him looking and feeling his best.

Fergus is every bit as sweet as he looks. He has a gentle demeanor and can be a little hesitant when meeting new people, but give him a little time and he quickly warms up. Once he realizes you're a friend, his sweet personality begins to shine.

Fergus has done well with other dogs. He recently met a cat and seemed more confused than anything, so the jury is still out on feline friends. We believe he could do well with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to give a new dog time and space to settle in.

He has demonstrated a good understanding of house manners and is currently working on crate training. Fergus walks well on a leash and would love an active family willing to include him in walks, adventures, and everyday life.

Because of his size, activity level, and need for appropriate exercise, Fergus is not considered a good fit for an apartment or mobile-home lifestyle. He is also not suited for a tether or invisible-fence setup.

This long-legged, bearded gentleman has already experienced life as an unwanted stray. Now Fergus is looking for stability, patience, plenty of good meals, and most importantly, a family who will make sure he never has to wonder where he belongs again.

Fergus is ready to trade the streets for the good life and find a family who will love his scruffy face furever.

Fergus is:
Current on Bordetella, Distemper, and Rabies
Dewormed
Heartworm Tested: Negative
Receiving Heartworm and Flea Prevention
Microchipped
Scheduled for neuter surgery at our partner Veterinary office.

ADOPTION FEE: $375

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PET, PLEASE COMPLETE THE APPROPRIATE APPLICATION FOUND ON OUR WEBSITE HTTP://FUREVERTAILS.COM. Unfortunately, at this time we are not currently adopting outside of the state of MI. We process applications ONLY - there is no guarantee that you will get a response to an inquiry.

Many of the animals in our foster program come to us with limited or unknown histories. We make every effort to evaluate each animal's temperament and behavior, including testing their interactions with other dogs, cats, and children (defined as individuals under the age of 18, when available). However, every animal is unique—just as every child and household environment is different.

While we strive to set both our foster animals and adoptive families up for success through thorough assessments and transparent communication, **we cannot guarantee any specific behavioral outcome**. Animals can be unpredictable by nature, and behavior may change in new environments or over time. By proceeding with adoption or foster placement, applicants acknowledge and accept this inherent risk and agree that no guarantees, either expressed or implied, are made regarding the temperament or behavior of any animal placed through our program.

FUREVER TAILS IS A NON-PROFIT, NO-KILL, FOSTER HOME BASED ANIMAL RESCUE BASED OUT OF OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI. OUR FOSTER ANIMALS ARE LIVING IN FOSTER HOMES AND TREATED LIKE FAMILY UNTIL THEY FIND THEIR OWN FUREVER FAMILIES. OUR ADOPTION PROECESS REQUIRES AN APPLICATION TO BE COMPLETED AND APPROVED BEFORE A MEET-N-GREET WITH THE ANIMAL CAN TAKE PLACE. ADOPTION FEES ARE NECESSARY TO HELP US COVER VETTING COSTS FOR OUR RESCUED ANIMALS.
