Estrella's Story

Estrella/Stella is a sweet, gentle 2-year-old girl currently in foster care in Virginia Beach, and she’s ready for a family of her own.

✠̈ About Estrella/Stella:
• 45 lbs, spayed
• 4DX negative and on monthly preventatives
• Great with dogs and cats (would do best with a furry friend)
• Shy at first, especially around men, but warms up beautifully with patience and consistency
• Treat-motivated and eager to learn

Estrella was left tied to a rescue’s gate as a puppy and spent nearly two years in the rescue in Puerto Rico. Despite this, she has come an incredibly long way. She recently completed two months in a confidence-building training program, and her foster/adopter will receive insights from that training to help her continue moving forward.

Life in foster: Estrella is affectionate once she feels safe and loves being with other dogs. She ignores cats, is crate trained (still curious and occasionally mischievous when left out of crate). She is calm during fireworks and storms, which is a wonderful bonus. She remains wary of men, but she is making progress—she has recently jumped up to sit near her foster dad on the couch, which is a big step for her. Leash confidence outside the yard is still a work in progress, and she does best with a harness and slip collar. Estrella is not a “just anyone” dog. She needs a kind, patient, understanding adopter who will let her move at her own pace. For the right person, Estrella will offer quiet devotion, loyalty, and a deep, meaningful bond.

If your dog wants a dog and you are willing to give a deserving dog the time she needs to understand she is safe then please reach out about this beautiful island girl.

Apply to adopt:
https://islanddogrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7208

Complete one of our online adoption applications today!

DOGS - https://islanddogrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7208

CATS - https://islanddogrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form?formid=7232

We may request a virtual tour of your home or, in some cases, an in person tour. Meet and greets are done with the foster at a location agreed upon. After a successful meet and greet, you can choose to start a trial adoption that will last up to 5 days. After the trial adoption we will either finalize the adoption or return the animal to our foster program. We have a trainer and behavorist that are part of our volunteer team should they be needed to successfully transition your new pet into your home.
