Meet Eratosthenes

Eratosthenes is not yet in prime condition to be adopted. He was attacked by another dog and his wounds have mostly resolved with some scabs remaining on his right ear and shoulder.

With a guesstimated birthday in Sept. 2018, Eratosthenes is a little underweight at 44 lb. He is an affectionate guy to all people. He hasn't been around children while in our custody, so we are not sure he enjoys littles.

Eratosthenes was picked up by Animal Control following a female in heat. No one came to claim him so he will have a chance at a new life with a family that appreciates his hugs.

He is leash-savvy, with no noticeable pulling unless entering a new environment. In that case he may be pulling backward slightly. Reassurance helps him overcome his worry so taking him into public places with a handler he has confidence in will be important.

Although he doesn't like going into a crate, overnight he is content and comfy in a 48" crate. He eats meals quietly in his crate with no notice of other dogs. When given a bone in his crate, he growled to tell a young dog not to approach, but stopped when reprimanded.

April 2020: We are not holding public adoption events until further notice. Qualified families are being invited to appointments to meet specific dogs. There are currently no opportunities to view multiple dogs and adoption events aren't being held at Tractor Supply in Lenoir.

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. Requirement is a minimum three year vet history documenting current / previous pets are spayed / neutered, kept up to date on core vaccinations, and on heartworm prevention. We suggest first time pet owners without a vet history look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience. Other rescues or your local government-run animal control agency may have different adoption requirements.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be required if, using our veterinarian or same-day surgery, service is scheduled through our organization. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is
