ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS — GUARDIAN BREED EXPERIENCE REQUIRED<br/><br/>Enzo is a 2-year-9-month-old male Cane Corso weighing approximately 120 pounds.<br/><br/>Enzo came to our shelter last December with two other Cane Corsos after being removed from a home situation. After months of care, medical treatment, surgery and recovery, Enzo is finally ready to begin looking for his forever home.<br/><br/>Like many Cane Corsos, Enzo is a large, intelligent guardian who takes time to decide who belongs in his circle. He isn't a dog who immediately hands his trust to everyone he meets—and we don't expect him to be. Once that trust is earned, Enzo is loyal, affectionate, goofy and very content just being near his people.<br/><br/>Enzo underwent surgery on both knees and has spent his recovery in a dedicated foster home. At his most recent veterinary recheck, both knees had healed extremely well and he was cleared to return to normal dog activities, including running, playing with other dogs and freely enjoying the yard. He has already gained significant muscle and should continue building strength over the coming months. He may retain a slight limp after resting for long periods due to changes in his left kneecap, but his veterinarian does not consider this cause for significant concern.<br/><br/>Every update from Enzo's foster has been encouraging. Beyond his physical recovery, living in a home has given us the opportunity to learn much more about him. He has settled beautifully into a routine, enjoys the comforts of home and has shown us just how wonderfully ridiculous a 120-pound Cane Corso can be when he feels safe.<br/><br/>Enzo has done well with dogs in his foster home. Because of his size and strength, any canine matches will require appropriate introductions. His compatibility with cats is unknown.<br/><br/>His foster is also beginning slow, thoughtful introductions with trusted people to help Enzo continue building confidence with new faces. His future family needs to understand guardian breeds and be willing to continue that work rather than expecting Enzo to immediately welcome every stranger into his world.<br/><br/>Cane Corsos are powerful, intelligent and naturally protective dogs. Because of Enzo's size, temperament and guardian instincts, previous Cane Corso or comparable guardian-breed experience is required.
