Emory's Story

Emory is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you are a match!
Scroll through his pictures to see his cute videos!

We met sweet Emory at Chicago Animal Care and Control, after he had been waiting there for over SIX weeks for an adopter or rescue. We couldn't believe it. For a dog that's not even a year old yet - 6 weeks is a long time! His previous owner surrendered him to CACC because his dog had puppies (which were Emory and his siblings), and they couldn't keep up with all of the dogs as they grew into adolescents...

All our friends at CACC raved about how great Emory was! And the second we met him, we knew why.

Emory is a playful young boy whose tail is always wagging and he was always giving kisses - even when he wasn't feeling well. Emory is a typical young pup learning about the world - he is curious, playful, and entertaining. He loves other dogs, and is a playgroup rockstar, as you can see in his videos. He has yet to meet a dog that isn't a friend! He enjoys going on walks and does very well on a leash, making him a great companion for walking outings.

Emory is also the rare dog that we let have a giant Costco round bed in his kennel and stuffies! He is afforded that privilege because he doesn't tear things up, like some dogs we know.... You can tell he has lived in a house before, he really does have good manners. He also shares with other dogs so well! He has no issue sharing his stuffies (in fact, he wants them to play tug with him!) and is able to be trained with treats around the dogs - no guarding!

Emory has been with us a while, and we are getting to know him even more. We have seen Emory in three different foster homes now, each one a little different. Emory lived with a playful young dog who he was happy to pal around with, he has lived as an only dog, and now lives with an older, calmer, mature dog that is showing him the ropes of dog adulthood.

His foster mom writes, "Emory is a beautiful dog with a soft coat. He loves to snuggle on the couch. He eats well. His favorite is a bit of warm chicken broth poured over his kibble. No additional topper needed. He is always very happy when his family members return home. No other person or dog will be as happy to see you come through the door as Emory. He is house broken on a regular schedule. He prefers the yard, but loves going for walks! He still has a lot of puppy energy! He learned to sit but will need additional training for any other commands.

Emory has SOOO much love to give and has been waiting far too long for an adoptive home. He has done so well in both of his foster homes, so we know that Emory will fit well into many lifestyles due to his medium size and his wonderful temperament.

When you first meet him, he may come in excited and jump up for the first couple of minutes, but he is really not a hyper pup and actually very even-keeled.

Emory is ready to shower his forever person or people with loyalty, cuddles, and joy. Please inquire about him today!

Emory's adoption fee has been generously sponsored. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
