Elvira's Story

Meet Elvira

Elvira arrived to our care with a broken hind leg, being found on the side of I-95, thin and clearly having lost feeling in her leg. Initial fears of having to amputate it were unnecessary, and after surgery to repair her leg, Elvira has spent time in two amazing foster homes that have overseen her recovery. Her latest foster had this to say about her:

Since fostering Elvira, I've learned that she is such a special girl. She has a spunky personality, but she's also incredibly well-behaved. More than anything, she just wants to be with her people. Whether it's five minutes of attention or cuddling through an entire movie, she's happiest soaking up any quality time she can get.
She absolutely loves affection. Pets, scratches, hugs, kisses, cuddles, you name it. She's so excited to meet new people, and if she spots another dog on a walk, she'd love the chance to go say hello.

One of our favorite discoveries has been her love of tennis balls! If she finds one, she gets so excited. Sometimes she'll happily lie down and chew on it, and other times she'll try to convince you to play fetch with a ball or one of her toys.
Elvira is also incredibly smart and very food motivated. Any treat puzzle or stuffed toy I've given her, she's figured out almost immediately. She already knows basic commands like sit, lay down, shake, and if you tell her to "go to your kennel," she'll head right in without hesitation. She's clearly had great training.
Despite her broken leg, you would hardly know it from her spirit. She has so much energy and always wants to keep going, so we've had to help remind her to take it easy while she heals.

One thing we've noticed is that she's a little sensitive to loud noises. Thunder and even the sound of someone bringing in the trash cans can make her nervous. Fortunately, she's easily comforted. Some reassurance, gentle cuddles, and a little love help her settle down quickly.

She truly is the best girl. She's loving, intelligent, eager to please, and just wants to be part of whatever you're doing. I know she's going to make an incredible companion for one very lucky family.

She is roughly 1-2 years old, spayed and up to date on basic vaccinations.
