Elmer - 807 Chihuahua & Pomeranian Mix Dallas, TX

Elmer is a two year old, 7-lb long hair Chihuahua. He was
surrendered to EARS by people who lived in a dog-packed RV. Elmer had a rough start in life with a genetic hip problem that required multiple surgeries. He is now totally recovered. Elmer loves and needs a routine and exercise, a fast morning walk (about 1.5 miles), followed by relaxing most of the rest of the day. He loves sunning himself and monitoring the backyard keeping it safe from squirrels and other perceived threats. He loves riding in the car and running errands. He likes to end the day with another short brisk walk. Bottom line, he needs plenty of exercise. Elmer is treat-motivated and has been working on his training. He loves people, and is intelligent and a
quick learner. He is potty trained and walks great on a leash. He loves his kennel and hangs out in it with the
door open during the day. Elmer is in a house with two other dogs and loves to wrestle and play with them. He is reactive to strange dogs, especially big dogs. He has been working on this but will need continued training. Elmer has not been around cats. True to his Chihuahua heritage, Elmer has a big personality, is bold, confident, courageous, loving, loyal, and a great watch dog. He will need continued training to keep from getting bad habits. Please note that we do not recommend Elmer to Families with children under 7.

We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention.

All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.
