Elmer

Elmer and his brother were found alongside a remote, country road in South Texas. Thankfully a good samaritan found them and reached out to Good Catch for help.<br/>Elmer is part bully breed but his rear dewclaws (and his brother's double rear dewclaws) tell us that he's also part Pyrenees; a very common breed in the south. Our best guess is he'll grow to be over 70 pounds.<br/>When Elmer and his brother first came into our care, we brought them into our local vet for a physical examination. It was then when it was found that Elmer had an enlarged heart. We were advised to have him tested for Chagas disease and after a few long days of waiting, it was determined that he was positive for the disease caused by the kissing beetle. Most likely passed from his mother in utero. <br/>This boy has a team of doctors rooting for him! A specialist out of San Antonio has proven cases of dogs just like Elmer to have made a recovery after being on medications for their first year after diagnosis. Our own Dr. Montgomery has prescribed Elmer with the necessary medicine to render his diagnosis.<br/>As a rescue we need to provide for all cases that come into our care. Elmer's medication will be subsidized by Good Catch for the year that he's in treatment. He will require multiple visits to your vet while he grows as the medication dosage changes throughout the year. <br/>Elmer is a happy, bouncy, goofy and lazy pup. He doesn't need much, a loving family to give him kisses and introduce him to all the great things in life like kids and dogs (he really loves those) and a cozy bed to lay in. Elmer doesn't require a lot of exercise, but because of his potential size, a house with a fenced in property would suit him best over an apartment.<br/>Don't let a Good Catch pass you by! Elmer is waiting to join his already adopted brother in the Northeast and we're waiting to save another Elmer.
