Meet Ellie! <br/><br/>If you're looking for a friendly, happy-go-lucky companion, Ellie may be your girl!<br/><br/>Ellie recently joined Day of the Dogs after spending over a year at the Chillicothe Animal Shelter. She arrived at the shelter in March 2025 and waited patiently for a family to choose her. Now it's finally her turn to find a home of her own.<br/><br/>During her time at the shelter, Ellie was selected to participate in Missouri's Puppies for Parolees program, where inmates work with shelter dogs on obedience, manners, and socialization. As a graduate of the program, Ellie has a great foundation and already knows commands such as:<br/><br/> Sit<br/> Down<br/> Shake<br/><br/>You can watch this video and see her "sit" and "down": https://youtu.be/GNE7uhDbPW0<br/><br/>But what really makes Ellie special isn't her training it's her personality.<br/><br/>The shelter staff described her as a dog who has never met a stranger, and after meeting her, we can see why. Ellie is friendly, outgoing, and loves making new friends wherever she goes. She has an easygoing nature that makes her a joy to be around.<br/><br/>She also gets along well with dogs of all sizes and would make a wonderful addition to many different types of households.<br/><br/>After spending more than a year waiting in a shelter, Ellie is more than ready for a family, a couch, and a place where she truly belongs.<br/><br/>Cute as a button, full of love, and ready for her next chapter Ellie is waiting to meet you. <br/><br/>She walks great on a leash . . . I could hold the leash by one finger because she doesn't pull. We've taken her to dog parks and she does great. She is currently with a foster in NW Indiana<br/><br/>Adoption Process: <br/>- Please fill out our adoption application: https://www.dayofthedogs.org/adoption-application <br/><br/>- One of our team members will get back to you via phone. <br/>- Our dogs can be seen by appointment only. We do not have a facility at this time. Dogs are in foster homes or boarding <br/>- Adoption fee helps to cover transport costs, spay/neuter, initial vaccines, rabies, fecal, initial worming, and microchip. <br/>-We do not place holds on our dogs. Please do not contact us until you are prepared to adopt. NOTE: We are very good about updating the pet's profiles once adopted. So no need to write us to ask "Is he/she still available?" If the post is up, the dog is still available. <br/><br/><br/>About Day of the Dogs<br/>Day of the Dogs is a volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping shelter and rescue dogs find safety, families, and second chances.<br/>Founded in 2015 by a Kansas City native, Day of the Dogs began after Pam moved to Houston, Texas and witnessed firsthand the devastating shelter overcrowding crisis facing southern communities, where some shelters have only days to find an outcome for homeless pets.<br/>Today, Day of the Dogs coordinates life-saving transports from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and other southern areas to rescue partners, shelters, fosters, and adopters in Northwest Indiana/Chicagoland and the Kansas City region communities where adoption demand can help create better outcomes for pets in need. We also focus on long stay dogs in the Greater Kansas City and surrounding rural areas to help those pets get out of kennels and into homes.<br/>We also facilitate direct adoptions through our foster networks in both Kansas City and Northwest Indiana and partner with shelters and rescue organizations across Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, and Indiana to save more lives together.<br/>Because every open foster home creates another opportunity to save a dog, we are always looking for foster families to join our mission.<br/>Day of the Dogs operates entirely on donations.
