Elissa's Story

📌 Important Information
• All dogs are currently in foster care in Mexico 🇲🇽. She would prefer an adult only home.

• HOUSEBROKEN? Not 100% yet. As rescues that lived on the street or tile/outdoor surfaces, they'll need some time to adjust. Most of our dogs adapt within 1-2 weeks of consistent training.

• LEASH TRAINED? No - she is very scared of leash walking - she will need a house with a fenced backyard.

Elissa was in an empty lot, alone and completely still. Not hurt, not visibly sick — just quiet in a way that felt like someone who had given up on being found. She didn't bark, didn't come closer. She just waited. Her foster Daniel brought her home, cleaned her up, and began what would become a 1.5 years of slowly earning her trust.

Elissa isn't the dog who runs to the door and leaps into your arms. She's the one who watches you first, takes her time deciding, and then — when she's ready — comes to you with this calm, deliberate tenderness that means so much more for the wait.

A year later, she does feel safe. She plays with the other dog in the house, chews happily on her bones, gets along beautifully with cats and kids. She still carries a alot of shyness with new people — it's part of who she is — but it's not fear anymore. It's just Elissa taking you seriously before she lets you in.

She needs an adopter who understands that the best things take a little time. She is a project dog and she needs an adopter with a lot of patience to let her become comfortable in your home. She is very shy and she hides from you if you come close to her to touch her, but is NOT aggressive at all. But after a few weeks/a month - when she feels safe, you can touch her and get closer to her. She needs someone who won't rush her, who'll sit nearby and let her make the first move.

If you have that kind of patience, Elissa has a whole lot of love saved up for you.

*************************

📝 Ready to apply?
