Elias's Story
Elias
Gender: Male
Breed: Great Dane
Estimated Birthday: 09/03/2019

Some dogs come into rescue because they were lost.

Some because they were abandoned.

And then there are dogs like Elias... whose story will stay with you forever.

Elias is looking for a very special home. A home willing to love a senior Great Dane who may not have years left... but still has an entire lifetime of love in his heart.

Elias was taken to a veterinary office to be surrendered for euthanasia.

His family said they were moving.

Thankfully, that veterinary team saw something they couldn't ignore. They saw a gentle soul who wasn't ready to leave this world. One phone call led to another... a friend called a friend... and eventually someone called us asking, can you help? He's just too sweet to die.

How could we say no?

A wonderful foster family stepped up, believing they were simply giving a senior dog a soft place to land while we searched for his forever home.

What none of us expected was that Elias was hiding more than a broken heart.

Within days, his foster noticed something wasn't right. He walked a little wonky, dragging his back legs at times. When we performed a neurological knuckle test, he didn't correct his back feet the way a healthy dog should. Soon after, he developed a nasty respiratory infection.

It has felt like one punch after another.

Weve done everything we can to get him feeling better, and today he's brighter, happier, and feeling so much better... but we still don't have all the answers.

It could be a tick-borne disease.

It could be a slipped disc that improves with rest.

It could be cancer, although thankfully we haven't found any tumors on his X-rays or scans.

It could even be degenerative myelopathy, a progressive disease that affects the spinal cord and slowly causes weakness and loss of coordination in the back legs.

Right now, we simply don't know.

What we do know is this...

Elias doesn't know he's sick.

He still gets excited for walks.

He still leans his giant body against you because he just wants to be close.

He still melts into your arms for cuddles.

He still looks at people with hopeful eyes, as if he's waiting for someone to finally choose him.

He has every reason to give up on people.

Instead...

He chooses to love.

Every. Single. Time.

We don't know if Elias has years left, months left, or somewhere in between.

None of us are promised tomorrow anyway.

But what if his best chapter hasn't happened yet?

What if the family that truly sees him is reading this right now?

Elias doesn't need perfection.

He doesn't need a mansion.

He doesn't need endless adventures.

He just needs someone willing to say, Come home, buddy. You're safe now.

He deserves to know what it's like to fall asleep every night knowing he belongs.

He deserves to hear someone call him their dog.

He deserves a couch. A family. A last name.

Most of all... he deserves to leave this world knowing he was deeply, completely, and unconditionally loved.

If you think you could be the family to give this incredible boy the happy ending he deserves, please reach out.

Let's make sure the rest of Eliass story is the one he always deserved.

Before emailing- please read:
- Yes, this dog is available for adoption
- Apply at c2cnd.org
- The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care.
- Local adopters only.
