Meet Eli

Hi everyone, meet little Eli! Eli is a very special boy who is full of love, joy, and lots of wiggles. He is about 2 years old and has been through a lot in his short life, but that doesn’t seem to have stifled his ability to love one bit. He is quite the snuggler and very playful.
Eli has completed heartworm treatment and is ready for his new home!
He does well with other dogs on a one-on-one basis, he was hesitant at first with my dogs but warmed up eventually and enjoys their company. He can be assertive especially with smaller dogs and if they approach him from behind, so it is NOT recommended that a dog park be his primary way of getting exercise. He can be pushy and mouthy while he establishes dominance, I saw this behavior with him and my 8 month old heeler puppy, but after some time they became fast friends. Please do not consider Eli if you are not understanding of cattle dog behavior to be potentially mouthy and not willing to work through it or be open to appropriate muzzle training.
Eli is very loving, but I’m not sure how he would do with small children, I think a home without small children would be best. He has absolutely no food aggression and has shown no signs of resource guarding. He is doing incredibly well with his crate training and we are working on his house training, he does prefer to potty outside, but I have to be super vigilant watching him inside and making sure I take him out regularly or he will have an accident.
Eli has had it tough, he was rescued from a shelter in Mississippi along with his mother who he was never separated from until he came into my care; he may be comforted by another dog in the house around his size or larger or he would do well as an only dog.
We are working through a skin condition that he is recovering nicely from. He had a couple other medical issues that I will discuss in detail with anyone who applies for him, but those medical issues do not seem to affect him in any way now.
He’s a great little dog with a really sweet personality and so smart! I love seeing what new things he picks up every day, from learning my cues to learning tricks from my dogs. I think he will be highly trainable as he is so eager to please (albeit a bit exuberant). He’s around 30 pounds with long legs!
