Elfie's Story

Meet Elfie! He has just arrived to Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch. He is around a year old, 25lbs, and is an adorable Aussie mix. He landed in a southern kill shelter with his sister (Alex) after their owner was deported.

Elfie is housebroken and is accident free. He doesn't need to be crated, but his foster believes he would train to use one well should his new family want him to be. He walks well on a leash, but when walking just without a companion dog, he can be a bit skittish. He is much more calm and confident and walks much further when he has a canine friend on the walk - so he would do best in a house with a doggy sibling! Squeakie toys and chew toys are Elfie's favorite toys to play with, and while he finds the bounce of a ball interesting, he has no concept of fetch or going after the ball.

When meeting new people, he is cautious and prefers to approach the new person first rather than be approached. Elfie is very affectionate, especially with his foster parents, and gentle and sweet with the 10 year old boy in the family who is so patient with him. Elfie seems smart and learned to sit for a treat very quickly. He is quiet and calm when he is in the foster room by himself. When his foster will take out a treat, he gets adorably excited and can catch it in the air with no feet on the ground, but then he will settle and sit nicely for a treat (he particularly enjoys salmon skin treats). When he gets comfortable (such as when he finally was convinced that he really could go on the bed freely), he jumps up with ease as if there is no gravity.

On a calm weekend afternoon, as soon as you sit down near him, he will put his front paws up on your lap for attention. Elfie loves to cuddle on the bed and watch TV with his foster family. He lies right next to them and often will put half his body on their chest. He seems to notice the TV images at times.

Elfie is up to date on vaccinations and has a neuter appointment at the end of August.

APPLY TO ADOPT NOW!!

https://rosemariesrescueranch.com/dog-adoption/

In the Consideration section, under 'Application Notes', please tell us about yourself to help us get a feel for you and your family, and as a fit for the pet you are interested in.
