Dustie's Story

AN INQUIRY FROM PETFINDER IS NOT AN APPLICATION! READ THE ENTIRE POST FOR INFORMATION HOW TO APPLY.

Meet Dustie! Dustie is a 7 year old female shih tzu mix and she weighs about 12 pounds. Dustie arrived in rescue after being surrendered and being very scared. She has settled into foster care and is starting to thrive and is ready for a forever home. Her foster mom says: Dustie is a gentle, sweet girl who is looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and feel safe. She can be a little shy and nervous when meeting new people or experiencing new situations, but once she trusts you, she becomes a devoted shadow who wants to be wherever you are. She loves companionship and would happily spend her days following her person from room to room. During her first few weeks in a new home, she will experience some separation anxiety when left alone whether that is you leaving the room or leaving the home. As she becomes comfortable and learns her routine, this anxiety gradually improves. She has done very well with the other dogs in her foster home. While she hasn't been interested in playing with them yet, they coexists peacefully. Dustie has shown some interest in toys, but she much prefers spending time with her people. She currently sleeps on a pet bed in the bedroom but I have a feeling she would much rather sleep in the human bed! She is treat-motivated and eager to learn. She is not yet fully housetrained and will need a family committed to continuing her training with patience and consistency. Because loud noises can make her nervous and she is not yet confident walking on a leash, Dustie would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard. She tolerates being picked up for short periods and would likely do well with older, dog-savvy children who can respect her need for patience as she adjusts. If you're looking for a loyal companion who will reward your kindness with endless affection, tail wags, and unconditional love, Dustie may be the perfect addition to your family..

Dustie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped and has had her teeth cleaned.

Dustie is fostered in the Orlando area and her adoption donation is $350. If you are interested in applying to adopt Dustie, please visit www.floridalittledogrescue.com to read the adoption process and complete an application! Please note that emails simply asking "Is this dog available" will not be returned, as applications are worked in the order received and availability largely depends on when you apply:) Please also know we do not adopt out of state! Thank you!
