DUNN's Story

LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT DOG FOR RV TRAVELING OR JUST COMPANY FOR A RETIRED PERSON WHO'S FEELING A LITTLE LONELY?

This sweet old man is wanting to make your acquaintance.

Dunn's back story is actually quite bittersweet.

He was found in a parked car, by police, after convenience store clerks called about an abandoned vehicle that had been sitting in their parking lot, for several days.

Turns out, Dunn was not alone. Unfortunately his deceased owner was found inside the car too and it was determined he had been deceased for at least three days.

Animal control found a microchip in Dunn, which indicated he had been adopted as a puppy from our local shelter in 2011. His original adopter had passed away too. The man in the car, was the original owners son. He was homeless and living with Dunn, out of his car for several years.

Needless to say, Dunn has led a challenging but interesting life that has left it's stamp on him but in his foster home he has proven he has an incredibly sweet, gentle, kind and cooperative side that makes him quite adorable and easy to be around, once he acclimates to his new situation.

We initially figured we would just pull the ole guy from the shelter setting he was living in and hating, so we could set him up in a sanctuary home where he could live out his remaining months in peace and quietude but Dunn has made it clear that he is nowhere near rocking chair status yet. He wants a loving home to retire in for sure but he has adventure, snuggle skills and life to bring to the party, and will reward his person, with his absolute charm, gentle nature and impossibly cute persona for several more years to come. This breeds can and often does, live into it's twenties and after getting to know Dunn, we 100% believe, he will live to drinking age.

Interested adopters will have to have some experience, obviously, with senior dogs and the ability to embrace some senile behaviors plus we discovered during his first visit to our vet, that Dunn has heart problems and was started on heart meds (VetMedin, Enalapril and Furosemide). Adopters will go home with a couple months supply of his meds, to get them off to a good start. He has responded beautifully to these meds too and if someone could let him know about his heart condition, that would be great because he has yet to receive that memo or act like his heart should be holding him back.

He's had a recent dental too, which has made him a great deal more comfortable and happier.

Dunn is a great traveler and loves being in a car or truck, whether it is parked or moving. It is why we think he would love to RV travel with someone. Sitting in a vehicle is his happy place and once in, he immediately curls up and drifts off to happy slumber land or, will just stare out the window, taking it all in.

In his mind, his needs are simple.
"Just never, ever, leave me alone."

At this point, he really doesn't care WHO is with him...just that somebody is. As long as there are people close by, he is a happy camper and will blissfully snooze away, inside or even outside when the sun is out. It has taken a few weeks to get to this point of anxiety free living, but he thrives in a home where there is structure, routing and predictability. He is not affectionately needy but his lack of hearing and compromised sight have caused him to become anxious when he thinks he is alone. He needs another heartbeat.

His housebreaking skills have improved immensely, in a home where there is guidance, structure, schedules and the expectation that pottying must happen outside. He now goes to the door to be let out, like a good boy but still, new owners should expect set backs, as he adjusts to his new life circumstances, which is always tougher for the senior dog with limited sight and hearing. .It will take Dunn awhile to readjust and patience will definitely be needed to get over that hump.

Still....

There is something very likable and charming about this old fella.

When he is sound asleep, his cute little face in peaceful in slumber and is heart melting. When he is awake, his calm and gentle but happy personality is infectious. When you think of his life, you can't help but feel a certain amount of respect for his tenacity, resilience and ability to still give his heart.

Perhaps he has earned his right to want a constant companion.

That he wants to enjoy humans and go for rides and walks, shows his love of life and his desire to live it. It is our belief thatddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd the constant reassuring presence of human companionship, is not too much for him to ask for.

So if you are a work from home person or retired an home most of the time and need a friend that is super cute, lived some crazy life and is not ready to cash in his chips yet, maybe consider this old man. He may challenge you initially as he adjusts but once he settles in, you will be smitten and grateful you gave an old man a chance.

You can apply to meet him at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption

His adoption fee is waived. We just want his final months or years to be stress free and filled with car trips, soft beds and the constant human presence that brings him peace.

Dunn is neutered, microchipped, up to date on five way, Bordatella and rabies vaccines, is fecal tested clean of intestinal parasites and flea/tick free. He will come with a good supply of heart meds, to get you started and a few belly bands (boy diapers) for those first few rough days of transition plus he has had a complete dental and will most likely not be needing another.

PLEASE NOTE*:

*We require notes from certified doctors when
requesting a dog as an ESA
*Inquiries submitted through Petfinder, are not the
same as applications submitted through our webpage.
*Yes we do out of state adoptions.
*No, we do not transport. You must be willing to come
and meet the dog and take it home with you.
*Yes we do Canadian adoptions.
*If the dog is on Petfinder, it is still available.
*You must be 18 years of age to adopt
*If you submit questions about an adoptable dog,
covered in the Petfinder bio, we will not respond.
*We do not pick the first good application. We pick the
most suitable application for the dog, out of all
submitted.
*All correspondence is handled via email as time allows.
* If you are not chosen, you will not be notified

For a more detailed explanation of our adoption process, go to www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and read "The Adoption Process" link

All Mutts Great and Small's Adoption Policy
We believe there are many different ways to be a successful dog owner. It is our intent to broaden the idea of happy dog/person relationships to go beyond the traditional. Our goal is to place people and dogs together with the intent being compatibility. We know these dogs and we want to match them with the person who will provide them with the best possible life. One they would have chosen themselves had they been able too. We do NOT have a standard list of "must haves", preferring to match dog with adopter. www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org
