Duke - Passed Away 2025's Story

*Update 8/11/2022

HI fans, I know it has been awhile since I checked in. If you haven’t heard, I had a DNA test done and found out I am half Boxer and half Bernese Mountain Dog, they are also known as

Berners. What an odd name!!

LOL!!

Since this is a boxer rescue, let me will fill you in on the other half of my identity. Berners are sweet, affectionate, and strikingly beautiful with thick, long, silky fur. I mean just look at my golden coat; I would have to agree!!! They say Berners are intelligent and have a majestic nobility. I am very smart and want to please everyone. I know most of my commands and listen very well. I am a hardy dog and strive in cold weather. Thank goodness I moved to MN/WI. Berners are imposing but not threatening, and they maintain an aloof dignity with strangers. I see this trait in myself when new people come around, it takes a little bit for me to warm up. They say one of the cons with Berners, is that we don’t always know the extent of our size. This is of course true, I try to sit on my foster mom’s lap all the time. She is always telling me no, and I wondered why.

Now let’s talk about you....!!!! Do you like long walks through the neighborhood or maybe in woods? Do you like laying on the couch, watching Netflix’s and cuddling with a big teddy bear? Do you like to romp around the yard or maybe schedule a coffee and playdate with some of our closest friends? If you said yes to all of those questions, or maybe just even one, I am your man!!! My Name is Duke and don’t you forget it. I can’t wait to meet you.

*Update 4/16/2022
Hi my fans!!! How is everyone doing, I was under the weather for a bit, but I am back and better than ever. I can’t believe I am still in foster care. Everyone I meet wonders why I have not been snatched up. I am a fun loving guy who loves to hang out and be with my people. As a reminder no cats or small dogs due to my prey drive. I am definitely a surfer, of the counter of course, I love food but I do not beg. One of my other bad habits is drinking out of the toilet bowl. If you don’t enjoy this I will be the perfect reminder to put the lid down.

If you are interested in meeting me please reach out to MNBR for more info. I would love to show you what a good boy I am.

Update 3/7/2022
Sir Duke is back in rescue. We have learned a few things about him. He has a high prey drive, so cats are a no no!! He also has trouble sharing. This isn’t to say he has to be an only dog. He will need a leader(s) who will give him structure and know not to leave food, food bowls or other human food laying around. Duke is not perfect and will need time to learn the ropes in his new home. Who is willing to give this big loving lug a chance?!!!

Update 1/2/2022
Duke Checking in!!! My foster mom is SOOOO surprised there has been little interest in me because I am such a goo boy!! I was invited to a Christmas party where there was 11+ people including adults and children. I did so good!! I loved everyone so much so my tail never stopped wagging. I did have to make my presences known whenever someone new came into the house, with a simple bark. More and more of my personality has come out. Before my foster brother initiated all the play, but now I am and I am loving it. I do zoomies in the yard and in the house. I will definitely need a home with a fenced in yard and I like to chase the yard critters and have broken a couple of collars while on a tie out!! But don’t worry I came back when called. I am getting used to my foster brothers snuggles. I am doing really good going into my kennel and know it is a safe place to be. I am hoping to start the new year off in a new home with a loving family.

Hi my name is Duke and I am new to MNBR. I came from shelter in Ohio where I lived for 10 months. I know I don’t look like your typical boxer, but don’t let this fool you. I can still wiggle my butt with the best of them and my antics will keep you laughing for days.

In the short time I have been in the “real” world I have adjusted very well to my surroundings. I am physically strong and will need someone who can handle me. I do need to work on my leash manners, but my foster mom says I am smart and thinks I will be a faster learner. I get along with other dogs as I currently have a foster brother. Sometimes he can be a bit much, so when I no longer want to play I pretend I am sleeping. I am not sure about cats as I don’t currently live with one. I do like to chase and hunt the critters in the yard. I love to be near my people, cuddle, I am potty trained and will nudge you when it is time to go outside. I do well in my kennel and when I am tired I will put myself to bed. I had Thanksgiving with my foster grandparents and they said I was the perfect guest, so much so they did not want to see me go. It was a long drive to Thanksgiving, but I was a superstar in the car and would make a great travel companion. I rarely barked and if I did it was because my foster brother got me going. Otherwise I was one cool, calm, and collect dude.

You are going to regret passing me up!!! :)
