Duke's Story
This handsome boy is Duke and he is ready for his new forever home. Duke is a very sweet, smart 6-year-old sable sheltie with a clean bill of health. As with most shelties, he will benefit from a dental procedure in the next year.

Duke took no time to settle in with his foster family and gets along very well with their sheltie. He is very food motivated and willing to do whatever you want him to do for a treat. He wants to please and likes to have his people near. He is hyper aware of his surroundings and loves to bark which makes him unsuitable for condo living. He is reliably house trained and non-destructive in the home. He has a crate and typically the door is open so he can choose when to use it.

This sweet little guy will need someone who is experienced with anxious, high-energy, fearful behaviours that has the patience and knowledge to work on these. One trigger for Duke is traffic. Duke is currently on medication to manage his anxiety and it is working very well. The medication brings his anxiety down to a more manageable level without sedating him but there are still triggers that could ignite his anxiety.

For car travel, Duke does best in a carrier.

Duke does best with a predictable routine and having that stability is key to reducing anxiety.

Duke’s ideal family:

· Has experience with a hyper alert, anxious dog

· Is willing to ensure Duke gets plenty of exercise. For now, and perhaps forever, Duke is not suited for off-leash parks.

· Commits to continuing with Duke’s medicine and agrees to veterinary monitoring to ensure

· Has no small children

· Either works from home or is retired/semi-retired

· Lives on a farm or acreage with a secure area for Duke to exercise. Although this is not mandatory, we will give preference to homes with limited access to traffic.

· Preference will be given to families that are willing to get Duke involved in a sport.

Duke is fostered in the Calgary area. We will only be accepting applications from families in Alberta that meet Duke’s specific requirements.
