Duke AKA Dukie B's Story

To start the adoption process, please fill out our form on our web site at: www.nonprofitnw.org/drnw and see the Adopt a Dog/Fee page with more details on how we adopt our dogs. There are a lot of questions answered on our site.

Please indicate which dog you are interested in on the form. You can also view our adoption contract there on site as well.

Dukie is a fun and active puppy, just 8 months old, who is into destroying all toys in our house,a typical wiener. Duke is a good puppy though and does not destroy any of our stuff just his toys. Dukie already knows how to fetch and sit. He is one easy boy to train as he learned how to ride in a parade wagon at his first parade in the one photo. He caught on right away that he could ride instead of walk. Too darn smart.

He was neutered April 4th and did very well with going to the doc. He was kissing everyone there at the vet clinic and charming them all with his sweet, cuddly personality. Even those people who do not like Dachshunds love this happy-go-lucky boy. He falls asleep when you rub his belly. Fun dog.

Dukie is highly intelligent and almost completely housebroke a couple of weeks after we got him. He knows exactly what "potty" means and will run for the door if asked or scratch or bark when he wants out. Dukie also kennels at night and holds it too. Pretty soon he will be snoring on someone's bed all night too and taking over their pillows. This guy does not need to get up in the middle of the night if fed in the mornings.

Dukie is not an apartment dog as he will be too active and noisy as are most hound dogs. He loves playing and zooming around too much so he will need a yard for exercise and sunshine. He needs a buddy to pal around with too please.

This cutie was turned in to our rescue because his parents were working too much and they did not want him left home alone. So he will need a buddy to play with preferably another active doggie, but a cat will probably be his chew toy.

This breed does better with older children because they will defend themselves when the kids are left unsupervised and then hurt the dog. The dog then bites back with his needle teeth so Duke will love lots of older kids in his life he is that active. He is not a monster, but he does like to play bite games with his mouth as do all pups and that might scare any younger children. We are teaching him manners, but it takes time if you do it right so you keep the personality and not force this breed. They have to want to mind on their own.

He is now ready for his new family if you have a fenced yard and an dog buddy ogf any size to keep him company while you work please fill our waiting list form.

There is an adoption fee of $225 for this dog with his current shots and worming, personality guaranteed, neutered, housebroke and health paperwork. No phone calls or emails please. We always have several dogs needing homes so please see our web site for more details on how we adopt our dogs and fill in our waiting list before contacting us. Thanks.

Our Mission
Click on View our Pets to see our available dogs. Our mission is to take in dogs that need more training and place in well screened homes with folks who know the breed or place sweet ones with folks who are new to dachshunds. We have now placed over 3,000 dogs since we opened in 1991. We also plan fun wiener events here ...
