Duke's Story
Visitors are limited to approved applicants only. Please fill out an adoption application if you are interested in stopping by. We will be in touch once your application is approved to set up a visit.

Adopt: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/adopt
Foster: lighthouseanimalshelter.org/foster

---
Duke is an 80-pound “house hippo” with a heart just as big as his paws—and he’s officially cleared for adoption! This gentle, laid-back boy is all about the simple things in life: comfy
spots, calm companionship, and staying close to his people. He’s a true cuddle enthusiast, always ready to lean in for affection and fill both your couch and your heart.

Duke is dog-friendly, has passed his cat test, and does well on a leash and in his kennel. He’s got a sweet, easygoing nature that makes him a wonderful companion for a quieter home. While he’s very well-meaning, Duke is still working on a few manners—he may sneak a snack from the counter or investigate the trash if given the chance, and he’ll benefit from a consistent routine as he continues improving his house training.

When Duke arrived he had a few seizures, but they are being managed well with medication, and since he started his medication, we haven't observed any seizure activity! His only goal now? Shedding a couple of extra pounds (he’s very committed to snacks, so he’ll need your support there ).

Think of Duke as a remastered classic: low-key, affectionate, and built for quality snuggles. If you’re looking for a big, gentle soul to share a cozy life with, Duke just might be your perfect
match.

Ready to give Duke the loving home he deserves? Reach out to learn more about adopting him!
---

We do not adopt on a first-come-first-serve basis, but rather by the best match between dog and family, although we will factor in the order of applications if there are equally good matches.

Our adoption fee for adult dogs is $500 which covers the costs of vetting (spay, vaccinations, heartworm testing, preventatives while in our care, deworming and microchip) and any boarding or transport fees incurred in each dog's rescue. Senior dogs are $250.
