Duchess's Story
Fostered in Mobile AL
FENCE REQUIRED

“ What was your favorite movie when you were a child? One of mine was Disney’s ‘Fantasia’. As a relatively serious kid, I loved the fantastical escape it provided. One of my favorite scenes in that movie was the one with the Dancing Hippos in tutus. Thinking back and remembering them bouncing around and gambolling in a manner so alien to what we think of when we think "hippopotamus"... ... ... well it puts me in mind of NWFLGDR's own Duchess!

Duchess is a recent intake who is so full of joie de 'vivre that she simply can't contain herself! She loves zoomies and bouncing around the yard. She wants to share her zest for life with all of her human friends so we are working with her to learn a little restraint when it comes to bounding toward her human friends! When you have as much love to give as Duchess does it's hard to contain it, but Duchess is working on it. She has learned to use the dog door and to be patient when dinner is being prepared. She has been started on leash manners but being the joy-filled giver that she is and wanting to share that with the world at large, she still gets somewhat carried away in her rush to do so! When she is not sharing her vibrant love with the world, she is a sensitive soul who loves to be petted and told how pretty and sweet she is!

Because 'bowling with toddlers' is generally frowned upon and, like all dancing hippos, Duchess has very little concept of her own dimensions and strength of personality, we recommend a home with older, teenage+ kids. Also, because a Dancing hippo's energy must be exercised, yet also contained, we will have to insist upon a sturdily fenced (minimum 6' foot ) yard for her to rehearse in.

Duchess is approx 4-5 years old, she is HW negative, spayed, microchipped, and current on her vaccinations!

She is curious but has been respectful of the Casa Dane kitty, but does seem inclined to chase the outside TNRs so a cat-free home, or one where the cat has a separate space would probably be best. She is currently being fostered in Mobile Al, with 2 male Danes and another female Dane, all of whom she gets along with well.“

Duchess’ adoption fee is $350. To read over the adoption requirements before applying to adopt Duchess, please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dog in person from his or her foster parent.
