My name is DRILLA, and here is some info about me!<br/><br/>PHYSICAL INFO:<br/><br/><br/> Breed: Pit Bull Mix<br/> Age: 5 years<br/> Gender: Female<br/> Weight: 64 lbs (29.1 kg)<br/> Height: 58 cm (paws to top of my head)<br/> Length: 77 cm (head to butt)<br/> Neck Circumference: 47 cm<br/> Chest Circumference: 80 cm<br/> Current Location: MEXICO CITY<br/><br/><br/>RESCUE STORY:<br/><br/>My story started as what is commonly called a "roof dog" in Mexico. I spent the first few months of my life living on the flat rooftop of a house, without much opportunity to experience the world or be part of a family. The neighbourhood I lived in was so dangerous that my rescuers couldn't safely enter it themselves, but thankfully some kind local residents convinced my owner to surrender me.<br/><br/>I arrived at the shelter when I was only three months old—a skinny little Pit Bull puppy who finally got a second chance. Fast forward five years, and I'm still patiently waiting for my forever family. Unfortunately, dogs that look like me are often overlooked simply because of our breed, but I know my people are out there somewhere!<br/><br/>TEMPERAMENT:<br/><br/>If you love affectionate dogs, I think we're going to get along just fine! I absolutely adore people and make friends wherever I go. I greet new people with a wagging tail (video), happily soak up attention (video), and will never turn down cuddles or belly rubs.<br/><br/>I'm a confident, social girl who enjoys spending time with both people and dogs. At the shelter, I'm actually the first dog they introduce to new puppies because I'm so patient, playful, and welcoming. Watching little puppies gain confidence with me is one of my favourite jobs!<br/><br/>I know some basic commands in Spanish, including "Sentado" (sit) and "Abajo" (down) — check out the video here— and I'm always eager to learn more, especially if snacks are involved! Speaking of snacks... I LOVE food. A little too much, if I'm being honest, so I'm currently carrying around a few extra pounds. With regular exercise and portion control, I'll be feeling my best in no time!<br/><br/>I'm an active girl who loves to play, although I haven't quite mastered using my size gently with adult dogs or humans yet. I tend to play a bit rough with adult dogs (despite being SO gentle with puppies) and can get a little bouncy and enthusiastic with people when I'm excited. A family that's willing to continue teaching me polite manners and moderate play with other dogs will help me shine.<br/><br/>MY IDEAL HOME:<br/><br/><br/> An active family who enjoys getting outside and including me in adventures.<br/> Someone with experience owning or training medium-to-large breeds (or who is committed to learning!).<br/> A home with older children or adults, as I can accidentally knock over little ones when I get excited.<br/> A securely fenced yard would be an amazing bonus!<br/> A family committed to continuing my training.<br/> Someone who understands that I'll need regular exercise and help reaching a healthy weight.<br/> Most importantly, I'm looking for someone who wants to be a true ambassador for Pit Bull–type dogs. My adopter will need to understand that people sometimes make unfair assumptions about dogs who look like me, and they'll be committed to setting me up for success through responsible ownership, ongoing training, good management, and positive public interactions. I have so much love to give, and I'd love the chance to help show the world just how wonderful my breed can be!! <br/><br/><br/>ENERGY LEVEL – Medium – I enjoy daily walks, playtime, and spending time with my people. Once I've had a chance to burn off some energy, I'm more than happy to settle in for cuddles and relaxation.<br/><br/>GETS ALONG WITH:<br/><br/><br/> Kids – Yes. I really enjoy people of all ages! Because I'm a strong, enthusiastic girl who can become bouncy during play, I'd do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children who won't be accidentally knocked over.<br/><br/> <br/> NOTE: As with all dogs, I should be supervised around children and should have my space advocated for by adults.<br/> <br/> <br/> Dogs – Yes. I get along with most dogs, both male and female, and I'm especially patient and gentle with puppies. There are two female dogs at the shelter that I don't get along with, but the feeling is mutual (they are also reactive towards me)! On walks, I generally ignore male dogs and remain neutral around unfamiliar females unless they're already reacting toward me. I am looking for an adopter who will walk me with confidence and who will advocate for my space/redirect my energy if I am approached by another reactive dog (especially if they are female).<br/> <br/> Here is a video of me hanging out in the courtyard with my shelter mates (male and female)<br/> Here are two videos (video & video 2) of me with the tiny chihuahua puppies at the shelter (I'm such a gentle and tolerant girl with them!)<br/> These videos (video 1 & video 2) show me ignoring another female dog. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels, rabbits, or other small animals, so my adopter should be prepared to help me learn appropriate behaviours if needed.<br/><br/>TRAINING:<br/><br/><br/> Leash skills – Work in progress. I walk reasonably well on leash and alternate between nice loose-leash walking and a bit of pulling (I'm a strong girl!). I enjoy my walks with shelter volunteers and I'm confident out in the world. I'll need an adopter who is happy to continue working on my leash manners. As I've spent most of my life in a shelter environment, I'll likely need some help learning the routine in my new home.
