Drew's Story

I am Drew, and I am still here at the retirement kennel and STILL waiting for a home of my own. Other dogs come in and go back out to rescues or their forever homes, but so far I keep getting overlooked...

I am told I am a very good boy and am very handsome with gorgeous eyes, but seeing so many other dogs come and go while I stay here has has made me a little worried. So I now have my very own emotional support dinosaur! I love him! I carry him all around. I do play with other toys but I always go back to my dinosaur. I get to play with him when I go outside, and I must admit that I don't want anyone else to have him.

I look rather cute carrying him around don't you think?. I will put him down to get loved on, and since I am a favorite, I get lots of love. And my dinosaur loves me, too. He gets to go with me whenever I get my new home. I know my dinosaur and I will be loved by someone!

I have been told that I am a people-loving dog who "has experience and sense". I think that means that I don't act like a crazy puppy and can be calm and sweet. I love to play with stuffies and I like to try to sneak them back to my kennel when I come in from outside, even though I know I can't keep them. The BEST part about getting a new home will be being able to collect all the stuffies I want.

I am a "go with the flow" kind of guy and I love to lean in for some loving. One of the volunteers loves me and I like to run back to her all the time for some rubs. I will be six in October and I think that some people think I am too old, but that is not true. I have a lot of life and playfulness; I just do not need you to wear me out every day!

I will be a great choice for any family, so if you aren't interested in me, please at least share my post. And if you think you may want to open your home to me and my dinosaur, submit your application today!

* * * * *

Adopters must meet the following requirements:
- Live in Indiana (Western Ohio, Northern Kentucky, or Eastern Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit)
- Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old
- Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc. - sorry!)
- Fenced yard (no invisible fences)
- Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard

We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend! Prison Greyhounds's Adoption Policy
Adopters must meet the following requirements: - Live in Indiana (Ohio, Kentucky, or Illinois may be eligible depending on location and volunteer availability to conduct a home visit) - Primary applicant(s) at least 25 years old - Live in a home (no dorms, apartments, etc.) - Fenced yard (no invisible fences) - Willingness to keep dog on a leash whenever not in a fenced yard Adopters must watch a short video explaining care of their new dog, as well as read the Prison Greyhounds adoption handbook. Next, an online application should be completed on our website. Our board will review your initial application, and if we believe you would be a good match for a greyhound or lurcher, we will reach out to request that you submit the $25 application fee. Please do not submit the application fee until it is requested, as we cannot refund this fee, and we do not want to disappoint anyone. After the application has been reviewed and fee paid, an adoption coordinator will reach out to conduct a phone call and review some basics of greyhound/lurcher care as well as answer any questions you may have. A home visit will be conducted, and we will work together with your family to determine if the dog you're interested in is the right fit for your household or if another dog might be best. After adoption, your adoption coordinator will check in with you to ensure your dog is acclimating to the change. If you have any challenges, we are happy to help provide advice! We look forward to working with you to find your new best friend! To begin the process, visit: https://prisongreyhounds.org/adoption/

Our Mission
Prison Greyhounds finds appropriate homes for greyhounds and greyhound lurchers. This includes retired track racers, field racers, blood donors, and the “farm” greyhounds that never raced.
