He was a good boy in public and so many people went up to him to pet him and give him love! He does really well with sit and was a patient boy while we did our shopping. Did VERY well walking with us as well. We love Doug." <br/><br/>- Knows sit and got a good start on off and down in his foster home; has good recall and is very food-motivated and eager to learn when snacks are involved - he'll catch treats in the air, too!<br/><br/>- Rides well in the car and will jump right in when you open the door <br/><br/>- Can be a puller so a harness is ideal for walks, and his foster family said he walked nicely for them with that<br/><br/>- Did well kenneled and free-roaming for short periods of time when his foster family was gone <br/><br/>- Was fully housetrained in his foster home and would circle the area and start to whimper when he needed to go out; just remember that any dog may need time to get used to a new routine <br/><br/>- Struggled with overarousal in his foster home when he got too excited, but was very gentle about his mouthiness; hasn't quite figured out that hands aren't toys or that they don't always have food in them <br/><br/>- Plays hard and will do best in a home where all family members are old enough and mature enough to enjoy his energy<br/><br/>- Was indifferent and preferred not to interact with dogs in his foster home, and in the shelter he has been socially awkward and avoidant with other dogs; to set him up for success, he needs to be the only dog in his home right now<br/><br/>- We don't know his history with cats <br/><br/>- A stocky dude with fairly short legs, which make him extra cute <br/><br/>This pet qualifies for our 7-day Foster-to-Adopt program. If you're interested in fostering to adopt, please reach out to meetme@arl-iowa.org. <br/><br/>All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age) <br/><br/>The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed.
