Meet Daisy + Dotty

Terrier mix with a touch of Beagle | 7 years + 9 years | Females | 15 lbs (Daisy) + 10 lbs (Dotty)
*We cannot guarantee breed nor age.

Temperament: Playful, affectionate, love food!
Activity level: Medium energy. They get two 30-40min walks per day and lots of play time in the yard.
Vetting: Core vaccines (rabies, DH2PP), spayed, microchipped, dewormed, 4DX bloodwork for tick-borne diseases and heartworm disease (negative), on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. Dotty has Addison’s disease so requires a monthly shot from the vet instead of daily medication. Although she is still taking Prednisone daily 0.4 g twice a day with her meals. The current blood results for her kidneys are showing abnormalities but we are hoping that the monthly shot will reverse these issues.
Housebroken: They are let out regularly every 2-3 hours but if this is not always an option they are fully pee pad trained.
Good with Dogs: Both are fine with other dogs inside the home for short periods with proper introductions and under supervision. They would do best as the only pets in the home.
Good with Cats: Not tested.
Good with Children: Not tested.
Prey drive: Yes - interested in squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, rats. In true terrier fashion they are obsessed if they catch their scent.
Crate Trained: Not tested. They have free roam in their foster home. They are very well behaved and not destructive.
Resource guarding: None observed.
Response to commands: They will sit for food and sometimes down. Working on recall in the yard.
Are they vocal: Dotty can be vocal and restless when she wishes to go out.
Leash Etiquette: Dotty walks well on leash and Daisy loves exploring and smelling on walks. Daisy can be reactive to other dogs and can bark/lunge when she sees or hears another dog though her fosters have found distraction works well for addressing this.
Transportation: They love to watch out the windows or sit in a lap in the car. Not tested on public transit.

Dotty and Daisy are a gorgeous bonded pair consisting of mother and daughter. Dotty is the mother and Daisy is her darling daughter. They are deeply bonded and love each other very much as they have spent their lives together, so we are looking for a home that will adopt both of them and keep these two together. Both these girls love their walks and they would gladly sell their souls for some chicken. These two sweethearts love people and are super affectionate. They are always belly up ready for more belly rubs. They also love sleeping with their fosters and cuddling up with them. This adorable duo will make two very wonderful companions to their adopters.

Dotty, the mother, has a mild and sweet demeanour. She is the perfect lap buddy and likes to follow Daisy’s lead. Daisy, the daughter, is a playful pup with a vibrant personality. She loves snuggling and will attack you with kisses. She can also be the more independent of the two. Dotty is a food connoisseur (a.k.a picky eater) and loves fresh protein (though not eggs!) and in true picky eater fashion, she does not like veggies. Daisy is definitely a big foodie. At mealtimes, she is interested in Dotty’s bowl after finishing her own, so their adopters must keep an eye on her at feeding time so Dotty gets all her meal. Previously they were free feeders but are now getting used to their scheduled mealtimes. Daisy is a real chowhound and has previously counter surfed on one occasion when her fosters were not home. This duo’s adopters should make sure to keep all food out of reach and stored securely, especially when they are not home. The girls’ forever home should also be puppy-proofed throughout for when they are left alone.

Both girls are mostly housebroken though they also need the support of pee pads. Dotty needs access to pee pads as her Prednisone makes her drink lots of water and in turn she has to pee often, so sometimes accidents do happen. If kept to a routine where they are let out first thing in the morning and then regularly every 2-3 hours when someone is home they seem to do well. They also need to be let out right after naps. Daisy will sometimes have accidents off the pee pads due to separation anxiety.

Their lovely fosters have started introducing them to enrichment, though so far they have not been interested in toys if food is not involved. They do love sniffing in the yard though! These two besties play very well together and enjoy regular playtime in the backyard. If they were given the opportunity, they would happily play together in the yard 24/7 - we’re not kidding! They are both working on their recall while out in the yard and can be lured by treats depending on their mood. Their fosters have been working on this and Dotty has begun responding to coming inside if followed up. Daisy is more playful and will intermittently come inside when followed up with. She enjoys playing hard to get when it’s time to go inside. Since these girls love their time in the yard so much, we are looking for a forever home that will give them their very own securely fenced backyard to play in to their heart’s content.

This gorgeous duo would do best as the only pets in their forever home. Daisy and Dotty have both been fine with other dogs inside the house with proper introductions and supervision for shorter periods though. Daisy is playful and curious while Dotty may be a little protective at first but has shown improvement with time. She needs assurance that friends of all sizes are okay! Daisy has shown some reactivity towards other dogs on walks. She can bark and lunge when she sees another pup out and will also bark when she hears another dog barking. Her fosters have found that distraction has worked well for addressing Daisy’s reactivity. Daisy and her adopters could also benefit from working with a professional positive-reinforcement based trainer to set them up on the right foot for dealing with her reactivity.

This beautiful mother and daughter pair will surely brighten up each and every day for their future adopters with their sweet personalities and adorable antics. They are lovely companions both to each other and the people in their lives.

If you are ready to bring oh so much love into your life with this darling duo, please fill out a Canine Adoption Application on our website: covetedcanines.org/application
