Dorothy 's Story

Dorothy is wonderful 6-8 year old Shih Tzu who was originally found as a stray. She is a chill, loving girl who wants nothing more than to have a safe place to call home and give her attention. When her foster mom gets home, she barks excitedly as if to say hi. Dorothy gets along well with dogs, cats, and has been around kids with no issues. She is gentle and sweet. She is heartworm positive and receiving treatment.

If you are interested in adopting there is an application below: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PDAR/Dog

Notes: She was found with a broken jaw. We aren't quite sure how it became broken, but possibly from being kicked in her past. She had surgery to correct it and a much needed dental as well.

Most of our dogs are rescued from high-intake shelters in Texas or straight off the streets in South Texas where there are packs of stray dogs running loose. Your fee covers the significant costs of bringing them to safety. Your adoption fee covers: spay/neuter (if old enough), transport fees getting the dogs from Texas to our fosters homes here (that ALONE is $200-$230 per dog), core vaccines, heartworm test (If old enough), deworming, and microchip.

We partner with VCA Animal Hospitals. With every adoption comes a complimentary First Exam at any participating VCA location within the first 14 days of adoption. Follow-up Care Coverage: VCA provides limited health guarantee coverage (up to $250) for specific minor illnesses (like kennel cough or ear infections) diagnosed during that initial 14-day window.

We do not guarantee the breed of any of our dogs or how big they will be when they are fully grown. The breed listed is typically a guess based off of appearance or personality traits. We cannot guarantee that any dog is not mixed with pit. This is a standard part of adopting a dog from rescue.

We are a non-profit rescue. Any access revenue made is used to care for animals with additional medical expenditures that would otherwise result in adoptable dogs having to be left behind and euthanized.

Paws Deep Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy
The first step to adoption, once you have identified a pet you would like to adopt, is to fill out an adoption application. You can speed up the adoption process by calling your vet ahead of time to give us permission to speak to them in regards to your current and past pets. You will be contacted to schedule an interview and a meet and greet after the adoption contract is approved.. We will need proof of age with a form of ID. Once we have gotten approval that you are allowed to have pets where you live, your adoption application is approved, the pet is altered, and adoption payment is received, only then will the animal be released. Some pets may be able to go home the day after adoption contract is approved others it could be a week. If the animal is deemed too young to be altered we will have the adopter sign a spay and neuter contract. The animal will need to be neutered when it is 6 months old and we will need proof provided to us by a licensed veterinarian. Once there is proof provided, the rescue will reimburse $100 of the adoption fee. If there is more than one qualifying approved applicant that is a match then the applicant who first inquired will get the opportunity to meet the pet and decide if they want to adopt before it goes to the next person in line. Note: Some animals will require home inspections or a fenced yard. Applying for a dog does not mean automatic approval. We reserve the right to deny applications. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_j7Qyk269a7uzMcOh1Ffx3PU9femw7Xd3t-Nj8TOfBE/edit Follow us on TikTok: @pawsdeepanimalrescue
