DORITO's Story

Hola amigos! My name is DORITO and here is some info about me:

PHYSICAL INFO:

Breed: Shepherd / Labrador Mix
Age: 4 years old (Est. DOB: June 2022)
Gender: Male
Weight: 55.8 lbs (25.3 kg)
Height: 66 cm from paws to top of my head, 55cm from paws to top of my shoulders
Length: 79 cm (head to butt)
Neck: 41 cm
Chest: 71 cm
Current Location: MEXICO CITY

RESCUE STORY - My story hasn't been a fairytale so far, but I'm hoping that will change soon! I was found abandoned outside a gated community in Mexico, likely because of my epilepsy. Luckily, a kind rescuer stepped in and took me to a pawsome foster home in November 2025! I've been patiently waiting to make a big move to Canada and can't wait to call it my furever home

I know the word "epilepsy" can sound scary, but I'm here to show you that it doesn't define me! I have idiopathic epilepsy, which is beautifully managed with medication (which I take like an absolute champ, I must say!) I take Phenobarbital with breakfast and dinner, and Potassium Bromide with dinner. My foster mom has also incorporated natural, holistic support into my routine, with daily MCT oil and a delicious, frozen sugar-free Greek yogurt lick mat every night before bed – yum!! Thanks to this routine, a healthy weight-control diet, play time and daily walks, I have found my normal and am happily seizure-free so far!

TEMPERAMENT – I am a sweet, social, and playful boy! I'm a big fan of car rides and will happily join you for any errand or adventure - as long as you can help me with a lil lift if you have a SUV or truck, as I'm a short legged guy! At the end of the day, all I want is to cuddle up and snooze next to my favourite humans. My foster mom says I've shown no resource guarding with my human friends – I'm just a happy go-lucky pup!

ENERGY LEVEL – Medium. I absolutely LOVE my toys and spend every morning and evening playing with them for about 20 minutes straight (video) before getting tuckered out and settling down for a well-deserved nap. (video)

GETS ALONG WITH:

Kids – Unknown. I don't know how I would do with a kiddo around full-time, but I have met small humans before! (video)
Dogs – Yes, I currently live with two other dogs in my foster home! While my Russell-Chihuahua mix foster brother can sometimes get on my nerves, I loves initiating playtime with my Great Dane foster sister as you can see here! Overall, I would thrive in a home with a calm, larger dog, or as your one-and-only spoiled pup!
Cats – Yes, but no videos of the interactions yet! Along with my puppy house mates, I also live with two cats! I haven't been too interested in them and we've co-existed peacefully so far.

If an applicant for me has cats, we can request videos for you!

PREY DRIVE - Unknown. I'm not too sure how I'll react around squirrels/rabbits etc., so my adopter needs to be prepared and willing to train me through these behaviours, should they arise.

TRAINING:

Leash skills – Work in progress. I love going on walks, either solo with my human or joined by other four-legged friends! I haven't shown nervousness on busy streets because I'm a brave boy! Since there's always room for improvement, I will need an adopter who is happy to work with me on my leash manners. A well-fitted harness and some dedicated leash training will help set me up for success!
House trained – Work in progress. Frequent potty breaks and positive reinforcement will help me learn housetraining in my new home!

Please Note: WCP highly encourages adopters to do some research and training on their own before their dog arrives.

HEALTH NOTES:

I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will come to Canada with proof of all my vaccines and test records.
I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada.
I have Idiopathic epilepsy, which is currently controlled with following schedule: 1 pill of Phenobarbital in the A.M. and P.M., and 1 pill of Potassium Bromide with dinner. I've also had daily MCT oil and a frozen sugar-free Greek yogurt lick mat incorporated into my diet for holistic health!

Given my condition, it is suggested that I go for blood tests every six months to check how my body is handling the treatment.

NOTE: It is not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work/cleaning after they are adopted. West Coast Paws does not cover the costs of dental work and/or vet visits. These costs are the financial responsibility of the adopter.

ADOPTION FEE:

My adoption fee is $728.00 CAD including tax ($650 + 5% GST, 7% PST), which includes my airfare, if a flight volunteer is found directly to Vancouver.

-------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER:

Please visit wcpdogrescue.com to read about West Coast Paws Dog Rescue and its adoption process.

The info included in each WCP bio is provided to us from the international rescuer. WCP does not have in-person access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions, although we ask for video proof of a dog's attributes wherever possible. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person(s) adopting them and the environment in which they live.

WCP is unable to guarantee the accuracy of a dogs age and/or breed. West Coast Paws Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
WCP wholeheartedly believes in open communication with our adopters. We are always here to provide support and to join you in celebrating your dogs’ successes! Submit an Application - Start by clicking the “Adopt” button on a WCP dog’s profile. You will be redirected to an application form, which we ask you to fill out in as much detail as possible. Phone Interview - After your application is pre-screened, you will be contacted to arrange a Phone Interview. The purpose of the Phone Interview is to chat about the answers you provided on your application and to ask any clarifying questions. House Check - Once you have passed your Phone Interview, we will ask you to send us some photos of your home. Fear not, we don’t expect your house to look like a showhome! We are simply looking to see where your WCP pup would live and whether or not there are any potential safety hazards (escape areas etc.). Approval - Presuming you pass your House Check, you will receive an Adoption Approval email from our WCP Adoption Team. Deposit - A $100 CAD deposit is required in order for your dog to be reserved for you. Once we have received your deposit, we will update your dogs’ profile to show “Pending Adoption” and will stop accepting any further applications for him/her. At this point, we will notify the Rescuer that a home has been found and request that they start looking for a flight volunteer to bring your pup to Vancouver. Now you patiently wait for your dog to be booked on a flight. The Rescuer will work to find a traveller who is willing to add your dog as ‘extra luggage’ onto their ticket. We refer to these kind humans as “Flight Volunteers”. Meanwhile, your pup will be checked by a veterinarian who will issue a Certificate of Health and ensure your pup's shots are up to date. The vet will then approve the dog for travel and will provide all medical documentation, including your pup’s vaccination record. Flight Confirmation & Final Payment - Once the Rescuer finds a flight for your dog, WCP will send you an email with your pup’s flight information. We will also send you specific instructions regarding airport pickup such as where you need to park, what time you need to be there, and what you need to bring with you. Don’t worry, we will tell you everything you need to know! We require you to sign an Adoption Contract before you pick up your dog. Pickup & Take Your Pup Home - Your pup’s “gotcha” day is finally here! You will pick your dog up at the airport and take him/her home with you. Follow-Up & Post Adoption Support - Your WCP adoption experience doesn’t end the moment you take your dog home. We believe in providing ample post-adoption support and want to be a part of your dog’s journey. Within 7 days of taking your dog home, you can expect a phone call from our Follow-Up Team. If you need any help or support, WCP is here for you and your pup! WCP wholeheartedly believes in open communication with our adopters. We are always here to provide support and to join you in celebrating your dogs’ successes! There is no expiration date on our post-adoption support.
