09/17/26. Welcome our newest love, Donatello “Donnie”, to Doberman Rescue League, Inc. Donnie is a gorgeous 4-year-old red boy, born 7/28/22. At 96 lbs., he is a big boy—and a big love bug. He is a velcro Dobe who loves his people. Donnie has had basic obedience and behavioral training; he walks well on a leash and is house- and crate-trained.<br/><br/>As you can see, Donnie loves the water. He used to go to the beach with his family. He enjoys toys, playing, having a job to do, and being affectionate.<br/><br/>Although Donnie lived with and loved another dog, his owner said he is dog-selective. We have not introduced him to other dogs yet, but his reaction through the fence suggested that he wanted to play, so we believe he may do well with the right dog. Donnie also lived with a cat but was never left unsupervised with it because he has a high prey drive. He lived with children as well, but he would do best with children ages 15 and older. He does not like being hugged around the neck and needs children old enough to understand and respect that.<br/><br/>Although Donnie is an amazing, very loving dog, he has some idiosyncrasies that make finding the right home especially important. As noted, he does not like having his neck hugged and has a high prey drive. He will offer his paw, but he does not like having his nails clipped. We are getting him an emery-board treat puzzle to help with this. You can pet his ears, but he does not like the insides of them touched. Muzzle training would be very beneficial for these situations. He is allergic to chicken, so we have switched him to a salmon-based food. He would do best in a home experienced with guardian breeds.<br/><br/>If you are looking for an active boy who wants to be right by your side, Donnie may be your guy. He will be the perfect addition to the right home, where his needs can be properly met.
