DJ's Story

DJ is the kind of dog who makes it very clear he just wants to be loved. He's incredibly sweet and gentle, with a soft, affectionate nature that really shines when he's close to his people. He leans in for pets, happily accepts all the cuddles you'll give, and seems most content when he's right by your side, just enjoying your company.

He already knows “sit” and is very treat-motivated, which makes spending time with him both easy and rewarding. He enjoys attention and seems to really connect with the person he's with. Whether you're hanging out or giving him a little extra love, DJ is all in.

On leash, DJ can start off a bit strong, he gets excited and ready to go, but once he's had a chance to stretch his legs or run around a bit, he settles into a much calmer pace. With a little consistency and routine, he'll continue to improve and become an even more enjoyable walking companion.

DJ really is just a loving, people-oriented boy who's happiest when he's close, cuddled up, and part of whatever you're doing.

SPCA of Southwest Michigan's Adoption Policy
We have same day adoptions! You are welcome to visit our shelter anytime during our open hours. When you visit, you can either look through the kennel first or go into a meet and greet room with an available animal of interest. In the meet and greet room, we will let you spend time with the animal and read off their file. If you have a dog at home, you can bring them along with you to do a dog-to-dog meet and greet. The main question we ask is if you own or rent your home. If you rent we check your pet policy. Bring your pet policy with you; as that is the quickest way for us to check. Once that clears, all you would need to do is fill out an adoption contract and pay their adoption fee. They would go home with you after that! If you are adopting a cat, you are welcome to bring your own carrier with you. We do have carriers to borrow or cardboard boxes to send home with you if you do not have one. If you are adopting a dog, you are welcome to bring your own leash and collar. We do have leashes and collars to send home with you as well. Holds We offer holds over the phone and in-person. The hold fee is $50 and is non-refundable. Holds over the phone are for 24 hours and holds in-person are for 48 hours.
