Dixie in CO's Story
The adoption process starts with an Online Adoption Application you can find at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application.
Phone interviews do not take place til after an approved application is on file and we have a possible match for your home

My name is Dixie. I am 5 years old (DOB: 2/14/2021). I weigh 28 lbs. I could probably stand to lose a couple of pounds. I need a new home as my owner was no longer able to care for me. I am being fostered in Longmont, CO.

I came into foster care with a quarter-sized lump on my left hind leg which was recently removed. Bostons are known to have isolated cell mast tumors. Because of where it was located the likihood of clean margins were not achieved. The vet states to watch the area and evaluate it on a regular basis. A bump reoccurring removal is recommended. But the good thing is, it doesn’t bother me at all!

I love to be around my humans. I love seeing them enter the room and I try to jump up on them. Sometimes I will ‘mouth’ their hands, but only in play, and I’m not trying to bite them. I’m just really, really excited. My foster parents are working with me to try to get me to stop jumping.

I’m a good listener. I get along with my foster siblings. I have a brother and a sister, and we all get along great. I’m not really into play though. My foster mom thinks I wasn’t around other dogs much because their play confuses me. My foster parents think that I will come out of my shell more and more because they are seeing my growth. I’ve gotten into a few little scraps with Angel. Once over a piece of food and the other in our parent’s bed. Angel tends to get in other dog's faces and can be a little much sometimes. The level of the scraps have been minor and easy to control by mom and dad and no one has gotten hurt. I’m getting better about play and sharing.

I’m a fast learner and eager to please. I am a little skittish. Loud sounds and sudden movements cause me to pancake in my spot. I am getting more relaxed though. I need a family that is patient with me. My foster mom thinks I probably wasn’t socialized much so I am learning how to dog and to play without aggression. I am getting more excited about playing every day.

From foster mom
We are happy to say she hasn’t had one accident in the house. We’ve never had a Boston that loved to roll in the grass. Dixie is an expert at it! So much so that we almost always have to brush her whole body off when she comes in.

Here's a little more about me: Housetrained? Yes
Leash-trained? Yes
Rides well in car? Yes, but pants the whole time.
Good with other dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Not yet tested
Good with young children? Yes, with the one 6-year-old that we’ve had her around.
Shy or confident? Shy at first.
Barks? Can be a barker
Apartment qualified? Yes, if she’s taken out to potty on a regular basis.
Adoption Fee? $375
All our dogs are spayed/neutered (if six months and older), up to date on rabies and distemper, heartworm tested, and microchipped. Other medical needs diagnosed while in foster care are also treated prior to adoption.

MABTR requires a fenced in area from families who own their home, however we DO adopt to apartment complexes and communities where fences are not permitted due to leases and covenants. In these cases a leash law must be enforced. We do not accept invisible fencing.

MABTR only adopts to families residing in NE, CO, MO, KS, IA, WY, SD, ND, ID, UT, MT, MN, and NW AR due to the lack of volunteer support in other states, no exception even if you are willing to drive.

If you are Interested in Adoption please complete our online adoption application at 'https://www.adoptaboston.com/adoption-application

Petfinder's form is NOT our application. We will respond back to you within 72 hours of receiving your application.

Interested in Donating visit https://www.adoptaboston.com/donate
