Dixie's Story

Are you the one who can give a beautiful beagle a home? She was probably an abandoned hunting dog so is just learning to live life as a family pet.

Dixie is a people loving young beagle who just wants to be loved. She is shy at first, but with patience will want to be your best friend.

She was a little slow to warm up to the other dogs in the home also but things have totally changed now that she has been here a little bit longer. She is starting to play with other dogs and is just discovering toys!

She learned to use the doggie door pretty quickly and will mostly go outside now that she is feeling more comfortable, but will also use potty pads inside. The foster parents are trying to introduce new things slowly so they have only walked her on a leash in the yard as she has been adjusting to her new life. She is doing well so far on the leash.

She has displayed no food aggression with the other foster dogs.

Dixie would do fine with someone who is home a lot and can give her all the attention she is craving, but it seems she will also do well with another dog in the home.

If you are interested in meeting Dixie her application can be found at www.homesfurhounds.org

She is located in Williamsburg, Va.

Homes Fur Hounds, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
1. Once you have identified the dog(s) you are interested in meeting, you must submit an Adoption Application. You can find the application at https://www.homesfurhounds.org 2. Be patient. We occasionally have a high volume of applications, especially on puppies. 3. If your application is approved you will be contacted to arrange a meet and greet with the dog(s) you are interested in meeting. Whenever we have more than one applicant who is approved, we set up the meet and greet in the order in which the applications were received. 4. We are a small rescue group and do require home checks. Therefore, we only adopt to VA, NC and MD. Exceptions are made for medically needy or seniors if no qualified applicant is located in our adoption area. 5. We do keep applications on file for 6 months, so even if you aren’t selected for a particular dog, if you see another dog of interest, let us know and we will consider your application at that time. 6. Please don’t be offended if you are not selected to adopt. We try to match the dog with the BEST home for them. Just because you weren’t selected for a specific dog does not mean you can’t apply for another one. 7. Our adoption fee is $300.00.
